TexasGuitarSlinger seems to do well with her squire. Check out the king of the blues thread on the strat forum. One young lady, one squire and a lot of tasty playing. A very good advert for the brand by one of our own.

nice to see some good feedback on the Squiers because I always felt they couldn't be as bad as the feedback I have always heard. But then again the guys I heard hating on Squiers were never really excellent guitar players so it probably wasn't a cool enough name for them like a Fender or Gibson would be. Gonna go play one of them tonight again and decide!

The Squire strats are great guitars for the money. Clearly the standard and classic vibe are the best to own. However having said that, even the bullet and affinity aren't bad for the money. Look at the crap Wal Mart sells as a beginners guitar for the same price as a bullet. I'd much rather have the Squire than a First Act or whatever cheap student guitar they sell. I have a Squire standard strat as well as a Fender MIM standard Strat. The Squire sounds every bit as good. Just as Gibson has Epiphone, Fender has Squire. Both make some very nice guitars. The proof is in the playing.

prefer Fender over Squire
and was very lucky that I bought a Fender
at that time a China made Squire Affinity cost RM550
Artist series Squire Venus was RM1950
MIM Standard was RM1680
I got a MIM Traditional Fat Strat at RM950 with my RM1000 budget
Fender soon replaced the MIM Traditional with American Traditional
they were about RM2200
if I was not lucky enough to have the budget of RM1000 for my first Strat
I might get one of those American Traditional later

I know the Squier get a bad rap from some people but I have a chance to obtain 2 on a great deal. Both would be with a case less than $100 and in perfect condition. I have been wanting a Fender strat but cant afford it right now so I planned to get a Squier to play around with and maybe use as a project guitar.

Anyone else play Squier Strats who can give me more info? I'm sure it is pretty self explanatory but any info that you can share will be helpful...thanks!

I feel Squires are hit and miss. I had a Vintage Modified and when I laid my hands on my friends Fender I never touch that Squire again and soon got rid of it real cheap. Nothing feels, sounds and plays like a Fender and there is just no compramise when it comes to a quality instrument. The frets on the Squire were butter, it never stayed in tune well and I had problems with strings breaking all the time. I will never buy or recommend a Squire ever again after owning that VM Strat.

I would take a Yamaha Pacifier over a Squire any day of the week.

I would like to say that I own a Fender Highway 1 Stratocaster and a Squier Classic Vibe 60 Stratocaster. I absoultely love my Highway 1. I also love my CV 60. Fender/Squier...a name is a name. Not all Fender guitars are that great and the same can be said about the Squier line up as well. All anybody can do is test as many guitars as they can when they are purchacing and get "the one" that feels, sounds, and plays the best.

Dude buy one or both of them :D . Squiers may not be quite up to the "fit and finish" qualtiy of the MIA's, but they aren't crap either. My son plays a Squier Strat and it sounds good and I think it feels pretty good too. As I said, it's not up to the fit and finish level of my MIA's but it's a good darned guitar and for the prices you are quoting, you really can't go wrong if they don't have any problems.

I'd buy both pick the best of the two and sell the other to pay for upgrades. Either way at the price you're getting them for you can't lose.
