I know the Squier get a bad rap from some people but I have a chance to obtain 2 on a great deal. Both would be with a case less than $100 and in perfect condition. I have been wanting a Fender strat but cant afford it right now so I planned to get a Squier to play around with and maybe use as a project guitar.

Anyone else play Squier Strats who can give me more info? I'm sure it is pretty self explanatory but any info that you can share will be helpful...thanks!

I don't get why people say Squiers suck.
I mean they're obviously a LOT cheaper that Fenders, so it's normal that they won't sound as good as the Fenders!

I say that Squiers are pretty good for their price!

I have a Squier Standard Stratocaster, and I love it.

BTW, you'll probably get more responses if you move this to the Squier forum (look below). 8)

i am looking at 2:

Blizzard Pearl color, no issue cosmetically with a gig bag for $79

Midnight blue color, no issues, recently setup with case for $90

toguh call because i like both colors and both play really nicely. In the end I never understood the hate that Squiers get, because it seems if you can play, then you can play and whether it is a Fender or Squier, it can sound good.

Ill check the Squier forum, thanks for the help guys

I've had a Squier Strat for about three years now. It was my first guitar and it's done me good. (bought it in a 'strat pack' starter kit) They aren't as low-quality as people say they are, though they aren't as good as regular Fenders, of course. (I'm getting a MIA Deluxe Strat when i get the funds) I would definitely say go for it, if it's a good deal.

I'm running my Squier through a Boss DS-1 distortion pedal to a Fender Hot Rod DeVille. I also use a wah pedal every now and then. The guitar sounds amazing to me. It's definately compatible with anything. I haven't had any problems with it except the bottom strap button coming off, but that was my fault completely.

So definitely buy them if they're a good deal.

I've got 3, they're all I play and record with. They're great guitars if you set them up right, they sound good and the build quality is good.

It's the player, not the guitar. A guitar is only as good as the person holding it.

Don't let the haters keep you from getting a guitar.

Now, that being said. I wouldn't play a Bullet or an Affinity Squier. Even the Standards can have issues sometimes. But the Deluxes are sweeeeet.

so you'd stay away from the affinity or bullet? the ones i am looking at are standards so i should be ok! but whats the difference with the bullet and affinity? the specs or quality?

My first electric guitar was a Squier Stratocaster with 2 humbuckers and it was a brilliant guitar. Didn't sound that great compared to the Epiphone LP Custom that replaced it but it played really well.

I really, really regret selling it though :(

+1 Try and get Korean. They have shredding necks. I don't like the fat MIM. That why I'm always looking for Jackson necks.

Besides that get better pickups and set it up the best you can for your playing style.

i've got an affinity and i trade equally from my mim telecaster to the affinity strat during our rehearsals. i set my squier up myself a couple of days after i bought it using the strat setup guide i found here... plays and sounds very nice. i'm very happy with it.
my long-time buddy and fender fanatic larry came by a couple of weeks ago and we jammed for about 5 hours. he asked if he could try it out. he didn't put it down for 2 hours and offered high praises the whole time.
i don't know what all the fuss is about. bring your amp, plug 'em in, if you like one - take it home. simple as that ;)

I have owned 2 Squiers ove the years. 1st one was a HM III Series. Very nice Squier until the day it had an accident and the neck was broken. My 2nd Squier is a Classic Vibe 60. All I can say about this guitar is WOW. I absolutely love it and it is a great 2nd to my Fender.

I have played on the Vintage Modified, Standard S.E., and Afinity models, and they are really good guitars.

I did buy my Classic Vibe 60's over the Fender MIM Standard. Just felt better, played better, and sounded better IMHO.

Squiers do not suck, they may need a little work here and there, but can be one of the best guitars you play.

One of my Squier Strats, a recent 1992 Korean ebay aquisiton, is
the best sounding single coil guitar i've ever heard, much less owned.
And i've played 57's, 62's, Bonnie Raitt's Strat, Morello's axes...whatever.

There are lots of junky Squiers out there, for sure.
But there are also plenty of jems to be found as well &
you can often snag 3 (or more) for the price of a Fender.

If a guitar feels right & speaks to you when you play it,
it really doesn't matter what brand is on the headstock.

That's my belief & experience anyway, ymmv.

I'm not into Strats, but I own 7 Squiers...1 Jagmaster and 6 Teles...If properly set up, they are just as good, maybe better in some cases, than any MIM Fender I have tried...

I have a Squier Standard, though it is heavily modified(locking tuners, new pickguard, Kent Armstrong ceramic pickups, LSR nut) and my daughters each have a Hello Kitty Mini-strat. They are quality guitars. The best entry-level guitars on the market and quite good.
