Exotic picks.

Over time, 'have acquired in addition to the aforementioned V-Picks, a turtle shell, buffalo horn, ebony, pecan, rosewood, coconut, agate, Min'd, camel bone, Stylus, Jellifish, jacket button (Django used to use one).

Try different picks with "appropriate" guitars for different styles of music.

Get to know your gear. Know what it can do and what it can't do. Play to the best of your gear's limitations.

Practice-hard
Play--long
Understand what can and cannot be done, then figure out how to do it anyways.
