Greets everyone,

thouston,

A while back you recommended myself 3 blues CDs that were essential to the enthusiast: Lil' Walter (Chess), Magic Sam (West Side Soul) and a Freddie King CD.

I have Magic Sam on order and I thought Lil' Walter was a fantastic CD, as for Freddie King that will be next off my list. Can you please recommend me some more great blues CDs to have so I can keep an eye out for them locally or I will order them from Amazon.

This is my collection so far:

Buddy Guy: Damn Right I Got The Blues
Lightnin' Hopkins: Definitive Collection
Robert Johnson: King of the Delta Blues
Blind Wille Johnson: The Soul Of A Man
Albert King: The Very Best Of
BB King: 80th Bday Special
JB Lenior: Vietnam Blues
SRV: The Essential(2cds)
SRV: Soul to Soul
T-Bone Walker: Midnight Blues
Little Walter: His Best (Chess)
Muddy Waters: Electric Mud
Muddy Waters: King Bee
Sonny Boy Williamson: His Best (Chess)
Howlin' Wolf: The Collection

I have a short list that consists of Freddie King, Elmore James, Eric Clapton and I have seen a great CD from Hendrix which has all of his Bluesy tracks on there from Amazon. Is their anything missing here? I want to get most of the greats before I begin to "double up" Cheers :D

Anyone is free to give me some recommendations, Cheers

Stratoblues you really have your bases covered. I really wish you would grab a copy of Gary Moores Blues Alive. I swear you will thank me for it.

sweet collection man, I was gonna say T-Bone Walker but I see you've already got him. Really does look like you've got the classic bases covered.

Hey Cheers guys 8) Gary Moore, nice! I had not thought of him yet, I have been collecting for at least a year (I think). YouTube has helped to to identify allot of players I never heard of and this forum has helped me also. There is a great CD/Record place in the city where I live and I have a job interview about 100m away so I thought I would have a loosky :) But yeah, some of the CDs I came across by chance actually, such as Muddy Waters "King Bee". I had a voucher for a store that sells allot of rubbish music but I seen this one of Muddy Waters and funnily enough it is one of my favs. Some others I have spotted here and there too

The best thing for you to do is stop by your local CD shop and look through their Blues section... most of the stuff you want will be marked down to $10. Stock up on Muddy Waters, Howlin' Wolf, Freddie King, Albert King, BB King, Albert Collins, Johnny Winter, Chuck Berry, Buddy Guy, Bobby Bland, Otis Rush, T-Bone Walker, Etta James... basically anything you can get your hands on. The Martin Scorsce (sp?) Blues Collection is great.

You may want to try your local library before you buy. Ours has a small collection of Blues CD's won't cost you anything!

I just picked up Riding with the King with EC and BB. First Blues CD enjoying it. I may have to check out some from your list.

I think I may have said this before, but I like Freddie Kings last two LP's on Shelter Records. That was Leon Russells label and I believe he adds piano to some of the tracks. The songs just kickass.

Texas Cannon Ball
Woman Across the River

When I was a young teenager, there was a R&B TV show that was broadcast out of Dallas. I think it was called What's Shakin'. It was just unbelieveable. Gatemouth Brown was the band leader, standing out front with his non-reverse Firebird. They had a whole band in suits standing on a bleacher style stage. I promise you they just ripped it up!! Anyway Freddie King was from Dallas and would show up as a guest. He would start sqeezing the note out of his guitar and would be drinshed in sweat in like one minute. He completely changed my view of music and the direction I still follow to this day.

OMG, Son House http://www.amazon.com/Martin-Scorsese-Presents-Blues-House/dp/B0000A0AZA/ref=ntt_mus_ep_dpi_lnk was one of greatest bluemen ,ever. His legendary song 'Death Letter Blues' ranks as one of all time greatest blues songs http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8jN5vqEyV7g.

Robert Johnson (yes THE Robert Johnson) & Bukka White both idolized Son House. So why isn't Son House more popular? He was an alcoholic, played a primitive style blues that didn't go over well when recorded.

Honeyboy Edwards told that that one night, he saw Son House playing, than Son went into doing 'Death Letter Blues', everyone in the jookhouse stopped dancing and listen to Son House sing. When he was done evryone in the jook was crying!

Hey, I solemnly swear, Lord, I raise my right hand
That I'm goin' get me a woman, you get you another man
I solemnly swear, Lord, I raise my right hand
That I'm goin' get me a woman, you get you another man

I got a letter this morning, how do you reckon it read?
"Oh, hurry, hurry, gal, you love is dead"
I got a letter this morning, how do you reckon it read?
"Oh, hurry, hurry, gal, you love is dead"

I grabbed my suitcase, I took off, up the road
I got there, she was laying on the cooling board
I grabbed my suitcase, I took on up the road
I got there, she was laying on the cooling board

Well, I walked up close, I looked down in her face
Good old gal, you got to lay here till Judgment Day
I walked up close, and I looked down in her face
Yes, been a good old gal, got to lay here till Judgment Day

Oh, my woman so black, she stays apart of this town
Can't nothin' "go" when the poor girl is around
My black mama stays apart of this town
Oh, can't nothing "go" when the poor girl is around

Oh, some people tell me the worried blues ain't bad (note 1)
It's the worst old feelin' that I ever had
Some people tell me the worried blues ain't bad
Buddy, the worst old feelin', Lord, I ever had

Hmmm, I fold my arms, and I walked away
"That's all right, mama, your trouble will come someday"
I fold my arms, Lord, I walked away
Say, "That's all right, mama, your trouble will come someday"
