actually if fell face foward from its stand thanks to my dog. i couldnt sleep all nigth because i was worried i messed up the neck. it is a set neck and i almost feel that there is a ridge on one side where it may be cracked or fractured. :-( maybe I am just imagining it, but you'd think both sides on as et neck would be without any ridgelines right? as in you could run your finger over it and fee nothing but smooth right? :-(

Sorry to hear that. If not sure take it to the trusted repair man for a checkup.

i just got it back from a setup! i imagine if i took it in they could look at it and tell without charging me anything. it still plays properly but literally i was sick all night and wanted to take my dog to the pound this morning! it fell flat on the face so im probably overreacting but i love this guitar and have only had it a week. from now on i will skip the stand and put it right in the case when i am not using it.

That's a bummer, you can't really blame the dog though. These things happen, if you use the stand regular, get a Hercules stand with "auto grab" system. I have a few, as well as wall hangers. It's fool proof, your guitar will be safe as houses.

i like the look of that Herc stand and will be getting one of those today.

I dont think the neck is messed up but i cant remember how it looked prior, so it has me freaked out. going to take it to guitar center and see if they can look at it tonight.

I think you are driving yourself nuts. You probably never noticed this ridge you feel before.

secondly, hate to break it to you, but it was your fault not the dogs!!

This is why I hang my guitars that I want handy, and store the others safely out of harms way in their cases. Dogs will be dogs, and kids will be kids. Be glad you didn't learn the hard way like a bunch of us did. My room old room mate had a 80's les Paul (still does I guess,) before we had a place and he still lived at his parents, we were all jamming in the basement. He had his LP on the stand so he could grab another cooler full of brews. As soon as he opened the door at the top of the stairs his old german shepherd ran down, he was sooo friendly and never wanted to be left out, but we felt bad for his ears so he wasn't allowed downstairs during jams. Anyway he ran down to see us, and knocked over the guitar, very neatly decapitating the headstock. That wasn't a cheap repair.

Since then floor stands are only for onstage, for the backup guitar, tucked safely out of the way.

yeah my buddy told me the same and he said it looked fine.

and the first thing I thought of when i heard it drop was, "i totally should have put it in the case", that was the last thing i thought about before i set it in the stand, walked off, turned the corner and heard the thump.

I'll definitely be putting it in the case going forward.

dbr I know just how you feel and it aint good. A few months ago I wrote I was on a serious GAS attack. Well one of the guitars I purchased a mint 92 EBMM EVH was the apple of my eye out of everything I wound up getting. I took the guitar to my friends shop to show him and have it setup. Everyone in the store was oohing and owwing over the condition and sound. The guy I purchased it from had to sell off part of his collection to pay medical bills as he had a stroke. He must of had a lot of guitars as he had a strip of tape on the top side of the case stating what guitar it was. Well when I came home I went to put it away and stood the case up I then pulled the strip of tape off and noticed there was sticky residue on it. So I grabbed a towel dipped it in warm water and put some elbow grease into the task. While doing this I heard three clanks like a pinball machine and was like what the hell was that. I opened the case and (it took me a little time to put what happened together) the three extra springs that came with the ax were in a little zip lock which being 18 years old just broke apart and since the case is made to close with the Floyd bar on the 3 springs dropped down along the guitar. All I can say is thank God they hit the back and not the face of the guitar and made 3 cuts and a little indentation at the base of the guitar and I just wanted to vomit. I sat there just looking for like an hour. Then did the only thing I could do get a black sharpie and color them in. You cant really notice but I still feel sick 7 weeks later. The guy had the guitar 18 years without a scratch and in 18 hours well you get it.So it is the third freaky thing non playing related that damaged a mint ax on me and the only thing that makes me feel better is that it could of been the facing.

OUCH! I feel your pain man. That's a tough one to stomach. One of my buddies has his LP at work and his has the same little ridge so I think I dodged a bullet but still going to have it looked at tonight. I wont be able to relax or sleep until I do. I am always super super careful with my Telecaster and have never had an accident. One good thing is, since I am still a beginner, I learned my lesson early on! No more whimpy stands, it either goes back in the case and I will be buying a heavy duty stand tonight.

sorry to hear that happened, LP type necks are notorius for breaking at the joint and at the headstock so I think you really dodged a bullet.

I would take it to real repairman and not GC, but I'm biased, they never seem to know what they're doing or talking about.

Glad you forgave your dog though. Dogs will be dogs, it's really not his fault.

Buy a wall hanger. it moves your axe out of traffic. Floor stands are the single worst storage option in my opinion.(Well aside from leaning it against a wall or a chair or something, but that option is really called nothing.)

yeah the reason i have to go to gcenter is my repair guy is 2 hours away, havent found a good repair guy in my city yet other than the guy the Fender rep recommended, and he has a 4 week waiting period.

I have had nothing but trouble with the guys at guitar center. starting with a setup that resulted in them only changing my strings and not doing anything else.

I HOPE I dodged a bullet

Eheh.
Guilty.
I don't own a single stand or wall hanger for any of my guitars.
I keep my pride and joy, my Brian May Signature Guitar, in it's case whenever I'm not playing it, and my three other guitars leaning against various things in my room.
Two of them are totally secure, but the Squier has the .001% chance of sliding from the way the neck is placed on the object and falling over....

....

I need some stands or wall hangers.

wall hangers are cool just make sure it's anchored into a stud. You should (practically) be able to hang off the thing. (not really of course, but if installed properly they're extremely secure.)

If you don't know how to do it, get a carpenter friend to put it in for ya, he'd probably do it for a 12 pack of his favorite frosty beverage.
