I've never had that, but here's my quick note...

When I first started playing, I did most by ear. What I couldn't fill in, or when I needed to learn something faster, I used tab. As long as I liked the music and "felt" it, I never had a problem just going through the motions and not putting feeling into it. If anything, some tabs helped me feel it more since I could see what was actually played and I could get into the music better.

STLblues I for one think tab is great and saves a lot of time if you want to learn a song in a hurry. But I know where your coming from. The thing with learning a song by ear is that you get it down on your qwn so you are not thinking of the tab and maybe you are even leaving a few notes out or might be playing the solo in a different position but for some reason it kind of flows better. WHY I really dont know but I think it is because your brain makes it feel like it is your own song if you can follow that.lol There have been countless songs tabbed in magazines that they are tabbed in the wrong positions. If I have to learn something and really need it spot on I always find a dvd or video of the artist performing it live. In fact that is better than anything for me.

Yeah, I got the same issue. I preffer by ear but sometimes is faster to read the tab given the tab is correct. If I have to sing then I don't even look in the tabs cuz 95% of time I can sing it more comfortably in the different key. The solo is different unless somebody used C or Am penta scales to be "safe".

No there's nothing wrong with learning from Tabs. They're been around hundreds of years. Lute players used to write tabs in the middle ages.

anything that helps you learn is a good thing.

Reading music is good too, and it can actually help you read tabs better, but unless you're going to be doing session work or classical stuff that requires you to be able to read music I wouldn't worry about it.

Keep rocking!

without tabs i would be in trouble, but i do use them just to learn the basic part of the song the pick up the rest by playing along and feeling it.
