Seems there is a lot of that sentiment going around lately.

All I can say is wow. I knew it ruffled a few feathers in the Fender Forum, I did not know it did the same in the Gibson Forum as well. With as much that has already been said about this whole afair, I think it would be best to not say anything at all and let Fender, Gibson, and the Authentic Hendrix work their issues out.

I would let it run its course if i were Fender. They've already lost in court concerning body shape. They let it go on for over 50 years, too late to do anything now.

Gibson has drawn even harsher criticism over this product from their die hard crowd, than from Fender's.

Starter packs are primarily bought by parents for kids. Not always, but mostly. How many kids are going to even be aware of Hendrix? Wrong icon for that demographic. As far as the more expensive versions, how many adults who are big enough Hendrix fans to actually buy a signature guitar are going to want one that he never played?

I say Fender is wise to just let this fail on its own and fade away.

There is nothing Fender can do since the only thing protected by copyright is the headstock. But the bottom line is they can just sit back and have a chuckle over the backlash and damage Gibson has heaped upon themselves. To be honest our forum has been pretty mild compared to a lot of other ones and also articles written about the matter. In fact Gibson is pulling everything showing a connection to it off the web and are praying it would just die down. But that does not seem to be the case.

very ironic that the headstock shape is what's copywrited to Fender. After reading "Fender:The Inside Story" by Forrest White (page 34/35) there's a couple pictures showing Merle Travis with the solid body guitar that Paul Bigsby built for him, and his guitar has the same familiar headstock shape. And this was before Fender had ever built a solid electric. So Bigsby and Travis actually came up with that headstock design.

Very ironic that Fender actually has that shape copywrited now. It's actually a shame, a Strat shape should be copywrited (imo) because Fender built and designed that, but not the headstock. Kind of weird, but I guess that's business.
