I have been searching as I could of sworn someone on the forum had a similar problem not too long ago. I needed a case for a Peavey Wolfgang and there is this guy on ebay that always sells them sor $130 plus $37 SH which I would never pay. Last week someone ran a straight auction and I got the case in great condition for $79. The only problem is it has a funky smell like a chemical cleaner or something was in there and I cant get rid of it. I left it in the yard opened for 3 days and it diminshed somewhat but I cant put the ax in there till it is gone. does anyone have a tried and true remedy to take care of this. It is like the Seinfeld episode when Jerry cant get the smell out of his car.lol

Straycat, you might try a couple boxes of Arm&Hammer baking soda inside for a couple days. It'll help suck that stench outta there. Go heavy on the Fabreze too. 8) Mike

Try squirting it with some Febreze. It'll get the stink out of almost anything and quickly too.

I would go the baking soda route first.

If using baking soda a heap of ash poured ontop of the soda works well. The baking soda and water (extreme cases you can use vinegar) cleans and gets the gunk to lift. The ash will absorb it.

You need a hell of a lot of ash though and it will incurr its own cleaning problems on plush linings.

A while later I could smell cat piss and I just knew that little bastard pissed in my guitar case....

Hi straycat and BigJay: I believe I actually have a useful suggestion on this issue.

We too have a couple of cats and have had one or two weeing situations.

My wife got very serious about it (apart from anything else, where a cat pees once they will tend to again, if that spot now smells like their toilet to them. Get that stink out!). She researched hard and came up with these two products. Odour Remover, from this manufacturer (halfway down):

http://www.rugdoctor.co.uk/rent/rd_rent ... _range.htm

and Shout Stain Remover With Enzymes from these people:

http://www.shoutitout.com/

Those products or something very similar will surely be available where you live. Used together we got those evil stinks out.

Good luck - C

Thanks guys. I think I have enough ammo now to tackle the problem and will try everything told to me heavy duty.

I recall a thread in the Strat forum on this maybe about 2 months ago?
IIRC, someone used Lysol and left open under a window for a week, but it was much warmer then.

I once had a Westfalia as well as a golden retriever and after many camping trips over many years - it smelled more like dog than anything else so I took it to a detailer. He placed an ion generator (not sure if it was positive or negative) inside for about 5 hours and it completely got rid of the smell.

I have no idea what the science is, but maybe something to check out.
