I've had this woofer now since early May, on the whole he's been a pretty cool gundog (not that I use guns). He chase's the bunnies in the woods (caught a few too), and the usual stuff this breed does in the woods/river. I fear my dog is going veggie on me Image he has taken to stealing apples off my tree outback Image being a springerImage it's not much of a problem to get them down for him. I went out there to see if he would swap his apple for a bone, not a chance. Everytime I get near him, he takes the apple in his mouth and bolts! He's now up here chewing an apple, it's the size of a freekin pumpkin Image I'm going to have to set this dog straight, anyone else have a strange muttley pal?

Hi ho Snowy,

Fine looking canine you have there.
I'm dog free for now, but the worst speciman
I ever owned would tear the wash off the line,
the ex cured the problem with the purchase of a dryer.

Now the pup is gone, the dryers gone, and she's gone.
Life is pretty simple at this point. 8)

Best of luck with your apple eater.

Cheers.

Dog aren't true carnivores like cats, they're omnivores (like bears) which means they need the occasional fruits and veggies. No big deal. Mine (cattledog) eats just about anything I put in front of her.

My mother had a dog that ate lumps of coal. Not just chewed on - really ate and swallowed.

She (the dog, not my mother...) also loved the scent of dead rotting seagull behind her ears - but that's a different thread.

Cheers - C

I also have an English Spring Spaniel, named Seamus. He is the best bird dog I've ever hunted over. Truly inspired over grouse or pheasants.

He also enjoys apples, among other fruits and vegitables. We rarely throw away apple cores or carrot ends. He is right there waiting for them. He will eat pears but not citrus.

Funny thing....dogs cannot digest cellulose fibers in vegitables and fruits. But these fibers are very good for dogs. It helps their digestion....roughage! This is why they eat grass, BTW.

Nothing like chasing the dog around the house with my wife and daughters screaming.....as he runs with a pile of grass hanging out the opposite end.

Seamus sounds very much like Charlie, this boy is fantastic in the woods. Springers flushing pheasants, bunnies, etc is a joy to behold. I'm sure you know what I'm talking about Big Jay, mine eats grass too. I saw the reuslts of that the other day, poor wee guy couldn't drop one

One of My dogs is like that and will eat almost any fruit or vegetable. He is a Brittany ( orange & white ) and a great gun dog. The other a Boxer is picky on food.

It's been my experience that most "Pups" will eat whatever they can get their paws on. We have two dogs, the boy (a Welsh Corgi) ate everything insite when he was young... Literally ate a couple of empty beer cans and also ate an original (first run) Janis Joplin Pearl album. Lucky for you, the fruit won't send your pooch to the vet....
