So I just got my new guitar back from the setup and I noticed the front humbucker is loose or has movement to it. This is my first guitar with humbuckers, but they shouldnt be moving at all should they? Its almost as if it is rocking back and forth from the middle like it is on a swivel. Please advise because I am going to take it back over there today and see if he can fix that. I just hope he doesn't try to charge me again. Thanks in advance

Yes they will have some movement. If you push on the side they will likly rock back and forth.

Hi dbr2026: what kind of guitar is it? I ask because I'm wondering whether the pup is mounted from above or below.

Anyhow. A bit of movement when you press on it is normal. It's a fat pickup and often only mounted with a single screw in the middle of each end. Though humbuckers in Strats often have two screws at one end which makes them a bit firmer (hence my question).

On the other hand, if it is flopping around all over the place without you even touching it then it may be that it is missing a pickup height spring, for which you should indeed take it back.

All depends...

Cheers - C

Yes. If there is a lot of free movement, then something is wrong. Go to a guitar store and take a look at some other guitars to see if there is a big difference. That should give you a quick answer one way or the other.

ok man thanks for the reply, i was kinda worried, because my first experience with a "setup" came from a crappy tech who was supposed set up my Tele but ended up only changing the strings and charging me $35 while leaving the fret buzz in it and not even adjusting the action at all.

Here is my new babydoll...

Yeah on this style of guitar it is normal to have the ability to push on the edge and have it rock back and forth. My SG and my Les Paul do the same thing. Its completely normal.
