Gibson is all ready taking there lumps in the guitar community for there desperation move to build a Strat style guitar. I am not going to run down every forum but Harmony Centrals which is a totally neutral community put up a poll would you buy a Gibson Strat and it is overwhelming 89% NO to 11% YES plus the verbal assaults are rather pleasing to read lol. But it is not looking good for them allover the web.

Who isn't taking their lumps in this economy? The same could be said, and has been, for Fender and the Roadworn series.

I don't think it's just that they are making a Strat knockoff. It's been done by other companies too. I think the fact that they have ripped off the Strat design just to associate and profit from the great Jimi Hendrix. Had they made a Hendrix flying V or SG there would not have been so much backlash.

Make you wonder how many others are trying to build a Stratocaster-clone?

I know of at least six, but if it doesn't say Fender....

It's getting absolutely ripped on the Gibson forums and on the Gibson CS blog where the $3000+ model is shown under development. BTW, it's not so much Gibson that should be blamed as it is the Hendrix estate that's whoring the name around.

Gibson just needs to make guitars only for players that deserve them, like Kiefer Sutherland...Gibson KS-336, best signature guitar of all time, for the best guitarist of all time, Kiefer Sutherland.

Perhaps now is the right time for me to negotiate a signature series strat out of em.

It all boils down to one thing, scraping the barrel from both parties.

Well the whole point of this is that for 60 years Fender and Gibson have been the cream of the crop of the guitar world and both know what it feels like to get blatantly ripped off. Besides that they also have the rivalry the likes of Ali -Frazier going for them. So for one of them to cross the line and ripoff one of the others guitars would seem unimaginable and that is exactly what Gibson has done it has nothing what so ever to do with any other company making copies it is the fact of who. How do you think all the die hard Gibson players feel about this. They felt there company was superior. It would be like Fender ripping of a Les Paul, Fender players would never hear the end of it as school yard as it seems these are adults we are talking about but thats the way it goes. So in a lot of peoples minds and also the minds of Gibson die hards there company did the unthinkable. After thinking it over I dont think there will be any lawsuits filed but I think the Brass at Fender are puffing on a fat one and talking about how there nemesis might have cut there own throats.

There can be no lawsuit Fender does not own the right to the Stratocaster Body. That was settle few years ago only the headstock is protected. And since when is Gibson Fenders main compatition because there bread and butters are completely diferent guitars. Like I said on another post what if it was G&L builidng this guitar? It just gives Gibson bashers a reason to get the hair up on there neck. Face it someone who truely loves guitars that play well should not even care who makes it. I am not talking about this guitar because i have not seen or tried it so I can't bash it or praise it. Look at the price though is it in the Squier and MIM area of quility. I don't know at this time.

I have looked at these Hendrix guitars. I personally do not like the way they look. The body looks odd and the headstock sucks. They look kinda Strat-ish, but that's it. When I see one in the store I probably play one(maybe), just to see if they are any good to play.

Fender has nothing to worry about with these guitars in my opinion, unless they are just that good when played.

Cvilleira have to disagree with you big guy. Les Paul has even stated in articles he was trying to get Gibson to build his solid body guitar for ten years and the minute Leo put out a solid body guitar the brass at Gibson said find that guy with the broomstick with pickups, and in Les Pauls own words the Broadcaster woke Gibson up "Gibson was asleep and Fender was not asleep". So that would make Gibson Fenders main competater in the world of solid body guitars since the fifties and definetlly through the 60s,70s,80,s and right up till today though a lot of smaller companies have knocked the two giants down to size . Unless Les does not know what he is talking about. I have never been a Gibson hater or basher as I think they are on an even keel with Fender for making the most important guitars in history and even outdoing them in coming out with a few more substantial models. But I have to believe they made themselves look desperate and crossed the line by doing a strat copy.

Straycat the Les Paul and Strat are two totaly different guitars so how do they compete. At the beginning when solid bodies come to being but not in a long long time. There are many other solid body guitars with bolt on necks that compete with fender now days. Gibsons Les Paul competition is Paul Reed Smith surely not Fender. A Les Paul and a Stratocaster have nothing in common! Thats why I just don't see it that way My Friend Stratcat.

Civilleira wow my friend you really have me at a loss for words. If thats the way you see it than I respect your feelings. But I just have to say I am on the other side of the issue in this debate. I would have to look at it in a way as if Fender were going to do a whole perspective on Claptons career and came out with lil box sets of the Clapton copy Les Paul Bluesbreaker, the Cream copy SG and 335,The Layla Brownie, and finally Blackie and his Crash Strat. I think Niki summed it up the best when he said it is like admiting the other side had it right the whole time. Hey friends disagree a lot and this thing is far from over and we have to admit it is a fun and interesting topic so we shall all see how it pans out.
