Hello Rock God,

That seems a good deal,
straploks, nut, strap & speed knobs are a plus.
open book headstock looks nice.
Let him keep the bag and invest in a hardshell case.

Cheers.

Hi rock god: I'm normally right at the back of any line of folks throwing doubt on a guitar's authenticity. And I stress loud and clear that I have no great knowledge of Epiphone archtops.

But something about that picture immediately set me wondering:

Image

Do those f-holes look mighty large to you? I went over to Epiphone's website and compared your one to this picture:

http://www.epiphone.com/default.asp?Pro ... ectionID=1

For sure the f-holes are significantly smaller on the kosher Epi, and the placement of the selector switch is different. Different knobs too, and a different trussrod cover. Now I'm starting to wonder about the "Epiphone" logo on the headstock - but I don't have the knowledge to answer my own questions on that one.

To be sure, all of those things may be completely legit, and just details that Epiphone have modified over the years - that's where my knowledge runs out.

So I'm asking questions here, not giving answers. Perhaps someone else here with more experience of the marque can give a more informed opinion - that's what I'm hoping my post will prompt.

I'm willing and ready to be wrong in my doubts - but in view of Forum user straycat113's current thread on the subject of Chinese fakes, we need to take care on this stuff. Take a look at the website he links to in the third post on this thread:

http://www.fender.com/community/forums/ ... hp?t=27422

Be careful, and good luck - C

I wanted the sound of a hollow body too. I ended up getting a Fender '72 Telecaster semi-hollow body, double humbuckers......and I love it.
