I always thought successful monophonic mixing was a little like taking a beautiful black-and-white photograph. You have to make the most of contrast and clarity of line in order to make it work. That's definitely easier said than done, but can you imagine the works of Ansel Adams in color?

Oh, and I just bought the remastered (stereo) Revolver CD today. I'm hopeless... 8)

Actually Adams did work in color too - Kodak gave him color slide material to work with... It sucked!

As for Phil Spector, the Beatles hated what he did with "Let it Be" which is why they allowed the remixing and release of "Let it Be - Naked"

BTW my collection consists of Original vinyl of the first albums through "Revolover" in mono, plus most of the rest in stereo, the 1980's remastered vinyl set from Mobile Fidelity, the complete release of the early CDs, about 10 bootlegs, all the Anthology CDs, the BBC CDs, the Capital series releases, and both mono and stereo sets of the new releases. Plus an almost complete collection of the solo albums. some vinyl, some CD
