Gibson making a Fender like guitar and Fender making a Gibson like guitar is hardly new--here are just a few examples:

http://www.masterseriesguitars.com
http://www.masterseriesguitars.com/catalogue.html
http://www.masterseriesguitars.com/EEcgmb.fullcgb.html
http://www.masterseriesguitars.com/daquistostand.html

http://www.theguitarcollection.org.uk/gallery5/victory.jpg
http://www.vintageguitars.org.uk/adDetails/337

What is "new" in a way is attaching Hendrix's name to it.
To that I would say--leave it alone.

Wow. I can't believe that they went out and made a Strat copy.

Why not--look at my post above yours--Fender's done Gibson & Gibson's done Fender before--it's the Hendrix association that's stretching things.

We've actually got one of those in the store I work in, on commission sale for someone. In all honesty it actually doesn't play well (granted, that doesn't matter that much as it just needs a setup), and it doesn't actually sound much different from a normal V.

How well does that tremolo work?

I've always shied away from that type of trem.

Yeah, the maestro isn't that great - the problem is the angle of the string over the bridge from the trem, the plain strings tend to ping out of the bridge when you give it a good ole bend!

Authentic Hendrix? What a bunch of sh%t. Shame on Gibson for even getting involved. No doubt Janie approachexd Fender with some rediculous figure for her financial benefit before Gibson said "oh yeah, we can do that"
That is without a doubt 1 money grubbing $@!&#.

Exactly, most likely Fender would not compromise quality and/or give them the cut they wanted out of the deal, so they went to Gibson, and they'll get these guitars made in China...I am thinking this, because the headstock on the black guitar looks like the old SX headstocks that you could get from Rondo Music, before they switched to the new Furian design headstock, and those guitars are made in China...

Even though I'm very disappointed with Gibson it's really no different than any other Strat knockoff company like Suhr for instance.

The difference is, Jimi never played a Gibson S-type guitar. A Flying V or SG would have some legitimacy. This thing is just a crock. I mean, we could all build Olympic white partscasters that are as legitimate as this Gibson. Sure, Jimi never played a Platypi S-Type. But he never played a Gibson S-type either. What's the diff?

Wow, I just checked out the comments on this webpage. Man Gibson is really getting hammered about this.

And this surprises you because? The thisg I find funny is that Gibson is doing the same thing they took PRS and Ibanez to court during the "Law Suit Era". They complained about these companies copying their designs and won. Now flash forward to today and they do the same like nobody would notice. If you ask me I think the problem lies with Henry Juszkiewicz this is a guy who has approved so many flops in recent memory that it's not even funny.I can see Gibson being stuck with so many of these that they'll have to pretty much give them away to get rid of them.

I was in the market for a gibson but after seeing this I don't think I'll buy new I'll look for a used one that includes Epiphone.

They've already made a few of them. I remember a batch or two that had an awesome Jimi laser etched neckplate.
