What the hell is that about? Sure I've seen a couple of pictures of him with an SG or his famous hand painted Flying V but how is Gibson involved in something like a signature line when even the most casual fans know of him with only Strats? Wow. This is a sad money grab by either the company or his whack job sister who's running the Hendrix name now. For me to hear this news on the anniversary of his death is even more upsetting. If they make SG's or various V's like he occasionally used then it's still sad but if they try and make a Strat copy...wow. If anyone has any more info on this let me know. I'm floored.

Hello Hoeycow,

Gibson will never build a stratocaster.
Rest easy.

Cheers.

I couldn't imagine that they would since that would since even though they're rivals that would be crossing the line. I just don't get it.

I understand where you are coming from as everyone pictures him with a Strat but I am not that freaked out by it because he did play a V in 67 and used the black one on his 1970 tour . So there is some legitimacy to it. Also I am not sure even though I read two books on Jimi if Gibson made that V for him as it was all customed out and was left handed guitar with gold hardware and diamond shaped fret markers so it was no off the rack model .Maybe Gibson had it in there mind to lure him over.lol Hell yes it comes down to the estate and of course there going to make as much as they can,but like I said before he did use one and it is a famous picture so dont get all freaked out about it as Jimi is all about the Strat but like any of us he had a thing for gear as he did own a lot of guitars from Les Pauls,SGs,Gretch,JazzMasters,Jaguars I think he even recorded Hey Joe with a Tele.

Why would anyone be surprised by Gibson making a sig Hendrix Guitar? Gibson just wants to make some extra money to use Jimi's name. Jimi did infact use Gibson guitars.

Gibson also makes other sig models of artist that use Fender Guitars, Jeff Beck for example. Jeff back has it made, as he has both Fender and Gibson making him sig guitars at the same time. Gibson offers Jeff Beck OX Blood Les Paul as well as Fender offering the Jeff Beck sig strat.

Jimi's use of Gibsons was limited and infrequent, the Isle of Wight V,the painted V and the triple pup Les Paul/SG and a Les Paul on some tracks of Electric Ladyland was pretty much his only involvement with Gibson.Janie Hendrix is no more related to Jimi than I am,she's his step sister not his half sister as most people believe. She was the daughter of a woman who had the good fortune to marry Al (Jimi's dad) this Jimi Gibson is just another cynical attempt by her to make money off his name while his brother and other Blood Relatives get nothing.Although I idolize Jimi I certainly won't be buying one of these at any price. If my memory serves me correctly either Gibson or Epiphone made a Strat-style guitar several years ago although I can't remember the name.

A Hendrix Signature Flying V wouldn't surprise me in the least, for some reason I associate him with the V as much as a Strat.

Jimi's 1967 black gibson flying v was a special order guitar. Gibson asked jimi what he wanted and they built it. That guitar is the first flying v to have the pearl inlays they where diamond heads a native american thing jimi requested. So im not surprised at all. It also had all gold hardware.
Google gotta love it.

If Gibson makes this I'm sure Janie Hendrix is going to get a good cut.

The estate went to Jimi's Father and Janie was his adopted daughter from his second wife. Well when the Father died his estate went to his child which was Janie the legal daughter. Jimi's estate was just part of the Fathers at that point Al had created several trust and partnerships. Experience Hendrix LLC.
Leon tried to sued to be part of Al's estate and a Judge rule not to allow it. He is drug addict and felone who has been in and out of jail.

Authentic Hendrix? What a bunch of sh%t. Shame on Gibson for even getting involved. No doubt Janie approachexd Fender with some rediculous figure for her financial benefit before Gibson said "oh yeah, we can do that"
That is without a doubt 1 money grubbing $@!&#.

Nothing wrong with it ... Hendrix was known for also playing a V quite a bit:
