Perusing the "What do you do for a living?" thread, I noticed that there are a lot of retired military folks here.

Although I did not say so on that thread, I am a retired US Air Force Master Sergeant who served for 22 years, 9 months and 16 days (but who's counting?). I was a Russian linguist with assignments in Berlin (when the Wall was still up), Texas, California, England, Germany, and Hawaii. I also traveled to Russia, Ukraine, Turkey, the Netherlands, Belgium, Norway, Australia, Korea, Japan, and numerous US states on government business. All in all, it was a pretty good career.

Who else out there serves or has served in the military? REE-PORT! 8)

I am a former 2nd LT, US Army. I enlisted as my draft number was '2'. I deferred for college, was eventually inducted (of course), learned my MOS and then requested, was approved for and graduated OCS. As an E-3, I was in the Artillery, assigned to a Commo Unit. As an O-1, I was assigned to an Armor Cavalry Unit, Headquarters Platoon. I did one hitch only and believe it or not, although I was bounced all over the country, I never left the States.

Not an ex military guy, just wanted to say a big thank you to all of those who are and were. Thanks for fighting for our freedom and protecting America. Everyone, regardless of politcal affiliation, should take time out to thank members or our military past and present whenever possible.

Hey all! Been in the Army for over 4 years. Currently an E-5 (SGT). Went to AIT at Ft. Meade MD, then spent two years in Germany at the JMRC. Went on to Ft. Bragg and have been there for over a year and a half. I've been to Asia as well, and am also deployed at the moment, but I can't tell you where. Been playing guitar for 12 years.

I was in Air Defense in the Army. Surface to air missiles. Spent most of my time in Germany, also before the wall came down.

As I posted earlier.. Retired US Air Force lieutenant colonel. Flew the KC-135 air refueling tanker as a navigator and spent 5 years with the US Army as a liaison officer. Numerous trips over the years to the various Iraq/Afghanistan conflicts and equally not much fun places.

I've seen the world from top to bottom, one end to the other.

I live in SW Oklahoma on a 40 acre "ranch" with 3 dogs, a cat and 35 horses. I'm finishing a degree in veterinary technology from the School of Veterinary Medicine at Purdue University and work part-time with a large animal veterinarian working mostly with horses, cattle and goats. I also attend an equine dentistry program in Idaho. (Once I'm degree complete, you can think of me a veterinary physicians assistant and horse "dentist" and you have a pretty good picture of what I do.)

Also as posted before, retired Navy Lieutenant Commander, Civil Engineer Corps.
Started out enlisted in cryptography, finished my engineering degree and got a direct commission. Spent the rest of my time running military construction projects, public work operations, and out playing with the SeaBees.
Geez a list of where I was....Scotland, Spain, Iceland, Greece/Cyprus, Phillipines, Puerto Rico, Sicily, Diego Garcia along with Florida, California, Mississippi, Louisiana and DC. Forgot something here but can't put my feeble brain on it.

Funny thing. Originally enlisted for 3 years just to get the GI Bill. Took the uniform off 22 years (3 months, 11 days but I did not count either). Some of it was great, some of it was miserable - but somehow you seem to remember the good parts the most.

I'm surprised they let you post this. Location and mission. Loose lips...

The only info I posted was taken directly from our press release. Nothing you couldn't find on the navy website or in any newspaper. It is FAR from being specific enough to mean anything. There are 45 warships and a multitude of special forces in the area.

I'm not busting your chops or anything, I'm just suprised. In my day mission security for even the most mundane things was pretty serious. Of course that was before the fall of the wall and the U.S.S.R. was still a serious issue.
