I was thinking about getting an SG Classic for my next guitar! I always liked the SG's and I love the sound of P90's. Enjoy that guitar! It's one that I would like to get my hands on too!

??? Please tell me you are kidding. Dollar for dollar Gibson's are way more expensive and their quality is not what it used to be. That is why I stay away form them. For what they want for an LP custom, I could by 2 Fender AM Standards...or a totally spec'd out CS Tele.

63supro I know exactly where you are coming from though I believe the vast majority of the forum prefer Fenders with some getting a bit to obsessed. It just irks me when someone post a picture of a new guitar and apologizes because it is not a Fender, and I am not pertaining to this post but so many do.

Fender does make USA made guitars for under a grand. The American Special ($799.00) and the Highway 1 (699.99). You can always mod it later with the P 90's.

Squier makes guitars with P 90's even cheaper.

More than one way to skin a cat when it comes to Fender. Glad you like the Gibby, there is nothing wrong with them either. I hope you enju=oy your new guitar.

For P90 tone in a Strat, I put Pete Biltoft Vintage Vibe SP90s in my 62RI Stratocaster...no routing, sized for a Strat;

You maintain some of the Stratocaster spank and sparkle, but add the girth and growl of a P90--best of both worlds, IMHO.... I would describe it almost like a hybrid of a vintage P-90 and a vintage early 1960s Stratocaster. The tone is very well balanced, no overly muddy or bright tones on either extreme.

I also put a Mighty Mite P90 (cheap but good) in the neck position of my Telecaster; it sounds great, especially for open tunings & slide.

Robbie Krieger of The Doors used an SG equipped with P 90s for many of their most popular songs and we all know how great his lead breaks sounded,you made the logical choice and you won't regret it.Have fun with your SG and I hope you enjoy it for years.
