I have been looking for a nice guitar (I didn't really care what brand) made in the USA for a reasonable price. I also wanted P90's , I have played the new Fender's and thought they were nice, but MIM. hmmm, 939 bucks for a MIM, I must keep looking, so I stumbled across a Gibson SG Classic w/ P90's, played it, very very nice. 949 dollars too. Hmmm, P90's , USA made, 10 dollars more than a Fender MIM w/ P90's. So long story short, I bought the SG, I think this is the best bang for your USA buck, a USA guitar for under a grand. WOW. Listen up Fender, make a USA made guitar for a reasonable price, MIM for 940 bucks, that's not right!!!!!

Anyway, that's my story and thanks for reading.

You'll find that places like MF will have some very attractive sales now and then, awhile back they had road worn 60s strats that usually sell for $950 for $500 and I think it was just a week or two ago GC had American Standards for under $900. Granted, they don't have P-90s, but that's beside the point >_>. Even so, definitely nothing wrong bout an SG, I could kinda go for one myself ^^

Don't get me wrong , I am a Fender guy (as you can tell from my gear list), the SG Classic regular price is 999. The Fender MIM's sale prices you see should always be the regular price. I guess my question to Fender is , why can't you make an American made 72 telecaster with P90's for 999?

I was just thinking that. Get a highway one, mod it with p90s if you'd like, and I think you would still come up below a grand.

And by the way, I think if you need it to be USA made, then you're missing the point of playing. These MIM guitars are great, some better than lower priced Americans, and just because I'ts not USA made doesn't mean it's not good.

No offense to you, though, in particular.

Yeah, hello, they're called Highway One Series.

They're $699 at Musician's Friend right now.

Fail.

Took the words right off my keyboard. A neck p90 may require extra routing though.

It still wouldn't sound like an SG Classic just because of it's construction.

P-90's are seriously sweet pups. Has nothing to do with doing it cheaper.
The P-90 is single coil, andI've heard them in Strats and Tele's in my day. Way back everybody modded the crap out of there guitars. I've never liked the tone of P-90's or Humbuckers in Strats or Tele's. It's just not what those guitars are all about. It kills the magic. I knew a guy who put a Strat pup in an SG and that sounded like crap too.
It is what it is.

Nothing wrong with buying a sweet SG with P-90's

A while back, I had the chance to buy a Les Paul double cut faded with P-90 in it. I played it, and it screamed!! Didn't have the cash at the time, but now that I look back, I have always regretted not picking it up. I remember the tone and feel as unique. Why are P-90 single coils and Fender single coils so different in tone and timbre???

Hey I think everyones first preference of a guitar here is a Fender. But I also dont think anyone ever has to apologize for buying another brand of guitar as we all own other brands and I like hearing about an ax from another maker that someone on the forum recommends. So congrats on that SG and to anyonyone else who has purchased a guitar from another company they think is worthy of mentioning.

I guess I needed to be more specific.....I'm talking about ANY Fender with P90's , all Fenders with P90's are MIM, and the telecaster with P90's sells for $939.99!!!!!!!! OH - MIM TOO. All I'm saying is I DECIDED TO SPEND 60 DOLLARS more for a U.S.A. MADE GUITAR (Gibson SG) WITH P90's. If Fender OFFERED a U.S.A. MADE guitar with P90's for $999.99 I WOULD HAVE BOUGHT IT. BTW, $999.99 is the regular price - not a sale price. The price was not jacked up and then brought down to a sale price - tricking you into thinking you're getting a good deal when in fact the sale price should be the real price. As you can tell by my gear list , I do like Fender guitars as well.

No Apology Here.

Not always. I have 9 guitars and only 2 are Fenders. I like them all. They all do different things and provide different tonal possibilities. I'd never own more than one model of any guitar.

Just because it's a Fender Forum, diesn't mean fender is the only thing the members play. If you gig or do studio work, most times you need different tools for different jobs. You wouldn't use a screwdriver if you needed a hammer. :D
