Hi The Cat: though at present that is the problem - China doesn't currently have the mature legal framework that Japan had in the '70s.

They are Fake Central because they have little interest in, or law regarding, Intellectual Property Rights. "Intellectual property? Property is theft - it says in the Little Red Book..."

It's changing gradually, and when they reach the point they can generate more wealth by respecting property rights than by abusing them I guess they'll come on board with that stuff, and it will become a place you can effectively sue people. And in turn, that'll probably be when they've generated some intellectual property of their own to protect.

Don't knock Tokai. There guitars were smoking Fenders back in the 70's they have built guitars for a few companies including now Fender MIJ's

I love Tokai! I have a 1981 tokai original series SX and its amazing. Before i got my MIA tele it was my main guitar! I loved her.

i would like to know if anyone has ever succesfully purchased a guitar from that website. I dont beleive that you will get anything assuming you try and order one.

The other difference is that in the 70's they made the guitars look just like the originals, and there quality was as good and in some cases better, but they did not pass them off as Gibsons and Fenders, they were Aria, Ibanez Ventura ect.

I have to admit and so will just about everyone else who has seen fakes over the last few months that they are getting scarily better. You are talking about a country that has about four times the population we do. So just think of all the talented craftsmen they have to choose from. Take an article that MR Bill linked us to so now they learn that we have to straighten the logo,go from 3 screws to 2 change the truss rod cover adjust the neck angle. You would have to be foolish to think there is not communication going back and forth between people here and there . Or guitars are not being analyzed as if they were parts of a UFO. At this rate I would give them six months tops to perfect at least the bodies of these instruments. I really did not want to open up and say that there must be a lot of operations already here or to give someone passing through the forum some bright ideas that I will keep to myself. But being a street kid from Bklyn you grow up with a very good education which some may call street smarts. Just like someone would go pay $29.00 a Carton in Virginia for smokes and bring em here and sell them for $65.00 this is just country to country with a lot more $ involved and you can bet your $@! we are flooded already with these guitars.

HAHA. I especially like the 2008 Fender Electricity Guitar; a strat copy with a telecaster headstock.

$296 there cant be much wrong with it that cant be put right. I know 12B warned me some weeks back of certain problems. I'd like to read some of the problems encountered by people that have bought them, if mr Straycat would be so kind as to post a link.

I honestly dont see what the problem is. If you think your going to buy a Usa fender or Gibson for $300 then theres something wrong with you. I sincerely hope the quality of the guitars improves to keep the big boys on there toes. Thats what happened in the 70s with tokai. Fender were forced to improve.

labour, and benefit packages are the big difference now.

CNC machines aren't expensive anymore. I am sure upgrading the electronics on these would go a long way toward making them the same quality as what they copy,

A few months back, the Chinese government actually charged one of these counterfeiters, she was running a huge ring. The Chinese legal system is the only hope companies like Fender and Gibson have to stem the tide of these fakes.
