I dont mean to offend you, but its possible they "sized you up" and decided (rightly or wrongly) that you werent likely to generate a commission for them.

When I show up at musical instrument store, I get swarmed. I think its because Im typically there on my way home from work, wearing a suit/tie etc. Also, I tend to move right to the expensive gear. Believe me....they notice if all your looking at is $2000 guitars.

Besides....Why didnt you ask for some help if you wanted to talk to a sales person?
If they wanted the commession he wouldent have to ask for help. We dont all wear a suit and tie. IMO just lazy sales people.

Exactly. I used to work in retail and there's a difference between a friendly and polite "Hi. Have a look around and let me know if I can help..." and annoyingly pestering a customer. And I also learnt never judge a person by what they wear. It was often the people who looked like hobos and bums who had the most money to spend.

It isn't surprising that I usually get better service if I stop at a store on the way home from work than if I go on a day off-whether during the week or on a weekend.

I'm usually better dressed, and if it's before/after a wedding/funeral, etc--the service is often even better.

I think I dress down sometimes to see what kind of attitude & service they really offer.

One time looking for a couch I went to two different stores close together.
The first store was welcoming, polite, and let me browse--when I had questions they were easy to find, and answered all my questions politely.
The second store had a salesperson that sounded annoyed I was there, and made comments along the lines of not being able to afford their stuff.

Guess where I bought my couch-and where I've been back to for other furniture.
