You're doomed.

NEVER make your first gig at your own school. I didn't play my school's Homecoming Dance til we'd been together over a year, so when we played that gig we burned the place down. I go to my 25-year class reunion and they are STILL talking about that gig.

-------

Okay, I'm just giving you a hard time. Seriously? Just relax and enjoy it. They're on your side, they want you to succeed, they all want to have a good time. If you blow a chord / note / solo, just act like it didn't happen. Strut like you've playing for years, and you'll kill 'em.

Act like a rock star. It's about 75% attitude, anyway.

Play the correct notes at the correct times. :D

Way to come up with the hard ones, Jay. :D

That's good advice for anybody playing anywhere... but how many can follow it?

Your comments suggest that my advice (tongue-in-cheek,yes) may not be that "duh" obvious. I'll take that as a compliment.

As you should! Watching the bar bands in my town play, that advice is apparently too darn easy to forget!

In Zen Guitar the author suggests that you take a moment each time you pick up your guitar to remember that you are preparing to make music... that your intent is to make music.

You're not picking it up posture and pose, or to get girls, or to show up that jerk of a bass player in your band, or drown your sorrows or drown out the wife's voice any other reason but to make music.

In short, to play the right notes at the right time. :D

Slap, my friend....the guitar is a means to an end more than you seem to think, at least for me....and that end IS the music.

Jay, my friend... can you read?
