Hi UK residents,

Who are the significant players in the UK and/or who would you recommend?
Across Europe, I used Thomann; they may not have the best prices, but shipping costs are very low and overall my experience with them was good.
Other online shops, in Germany and France have better prices, but s&h are ridiculous.

Please share your experiences, I'm looking forward to your advice, thank you very much!

i buy strings online, but guitars from a bricks and mortar store.

strings-direct.co.uk seem ok for strings.

Thanks a lot for the answers.
Thing is I do prefer to get to try the guitar and have the possibility to chose.
But sometimes, here in Romania, it's not possible, not even all major brands and only a fraction of the models are available in brick and mortar stores.
I bought online 3 guitars so far and they were just as expected; nothing fancy, 2 entry-level Ibanez electro-acoustics and a Danelectro.
I would definitely would not buy an amp online.
But for accessories and all sort of pedals and the like, online is a viable option.

Hi Purple: some of which I have personal experience:

Strings Direct - excellent.

SoundsLive in Newcastle - very good and helpful service on FX units and similar.

wdmusic.co.uk - for hardware: excellent. Ben Green is very nice and helpful.

axesrus.com - for hardware: a homespun operation, but good friendly service.

BareKnuckle Pickups - faultless but pricy.

Dolphin Music - good, no probs.

Andertons - ditto.

The only guitar I ever bought online was a low/mid-priced Yamaha acoustic from Gear4Music. Everything worked fine - but I kinda felt I'd got away with it. Not the way to buy instruments.

...And a few others I'll no doubt remember after I hit "submit".

Lot of other strange little suppliers of timber, fret wire and stuff like that - but I suspect that's not what you're interested in.

Any help?

Cheers - C
