I've wanted a Tele since I was in high school and Pete Townshend sang their praises saying he loved the sound and that were the hardest guitars to destroy(not that that mattered)but I always put off getting one.My darling wife knew how much I loved Teles and surprised me with a beautiful burgundy MIM Tele 3 Christmases ago,if I had known what I was missing I would have bought one a lot sooner.I have 3 Strats but I agree, you need at least 1 of each.

When I was younger I never liked the way Telecasters looked. That was until this year. I guess after 20 years my taste is changing. I no longer like them "pointy" guitars. I am going towards the traditional looks of Stats, Tele's, SG's, and LP's.

Let me correct the statement "one of each by adding the words "AT LEAST"...so now the sentence should read (and repeat after me, students) "You should have AT LEAST one of each, preferably more."

"You should have AT LEAST one of each, preferably more."

"You should have AT LEAST one of each, preferably more."

"You should have AT LEAST one of each, preferably more."

I love the look, feel, and sound of my Tele; I also love my other guitars as much...Strat, LP, LP Double Cut, and a Taylor acoustic/electric.

I've always been more of a Strat person but I played a Baja Tele recently and loved it. I could get some really nasty, dirty and fabulous tones out of it.

Martian, I never said the tele was my favorite. My strat will always be my baby. And so will all the others I will have. I just have more respect for the tele, and more desire to play it. You can't get a strat-y sound with a tele, and vice versa. It is just that I like the sound of a tele bridge pickup through an overdriven amp more than the strat's. But the neck/middle position on the strat is hat sets it apart, for me.

the tele and the strat are two entirely different animals imo. the lipstick at the neck delivers a certain drive that the strat can't match, and the bridge pu also has a sound very distinct from the strat... but the strat is much more versatile and i think that's why it's more popular... and more expensive.
i have a squier strat and a mim tele. nothing i want more than an american strat right now, but you know... $1200's kinda big for the average guy's budget... i'm keeping my eyes open at the yard sales ;)

Nooo! Your fallin to the dark side of Fender! JK. But I like the sound but I could never bring myself to like the shape enough be caught dead with one on stage. I have nothing against the sound but the shape is ugly IMO and very uncomfortable to play.
Just my 2 cents. :P
