If you think the way you do about strats, then I'm not even going to get started on the Ibanez Artocres (I have one in my store for $349).

Actually, in terms of semi-acoustics, I think they are leaps and bounds above the Epiphones and the surely, the best bang for the buck for those who refuse to overpay for a Gibson and can't quite yet afford a Guild or a Heritage. YMMV.

That Esquire was my first Fender. I was pretty much satisfied with it until I played a, "brand new" 1967 Strat. After finally getting my first Strat (that pink one), I could never go back to the Esquire or even a Tele for that matter.

Excerpted from 'The Stratocaster Chronicles"

"From Mr. Fender's point of view..................he was interested in seemingly mundane pursuits: methodical analysis, trial and error, improving existing guitars (specifically his own Telecaster)feature by feature, and assessing feedback from musicians."

"I wish I'd thought of it"..........Paul Reed Smith.

"I would challenge anybody to come up with a better design for a guitar"
..................Eric Clapton.

The Stratocaster was my first seriouis electric guitar 50 years ago. There's no more comfortable a player. I've owned a really fabulous Tele-Plus which I swapped out for a Clapton. I have an exceptionally lovely Les Paul, a gift from my wife, which will never leave my hands, but my go to guitars are always my Strats, of which I presently have three quite individual examples.

I always defer to 'different strokes for different folks.' Can't argue with success. But this design has become an industry standard. That's a cold fact.

Doc

I never gave a Tele any thought at all...until I got one from a game store I deliver mail to. Now I find myself picking up my Tele most of the time to play instead of one of three Strats my son and I have.

I'm never silent about tele's. First real guitar i ever owned was a tokai tele. Strats are great guitars but they definately lack that tele bash it around quality. Theres something very primitive, primal and persuasive about the tele that no other guitar has.

Definitely no argument. It IS a sophisticated slab of wood with a multiplicity of voices, particularly in the hand of the likes of Buchannan, Gatton, or Gill. Apparently, Leo thought he could do better and did.

It was the Stratocastesr which won a 20th Century industrial design award.

^^This is why I want to have some sort of custom guitar for me; strat shape, and tele sound. That will be perfect, though.

It's not just the pickups. The Telecaster and the Stratocaster are the sum of the parts which make them what they are. There are Tele's available with offset waists and I wage, the loss of that much wood makes a difference.

Best to have one representative example of each, and pick the generation which suits you.

'Agree with, "...at least one of each."

Tonal and mood and vibe and guitar options are such wicked-innocent fun!

I have a '95 American Standard Stratocaster, a '06 American Deluxe Stratocaster, and for variety a '05 Gretsch G6120SSU .... but no Telecasters .... until Friday night.

One of the big dealers had a one-day "Fender Friday" special on a brand-new Artist Series G.E. Smith Telecaster in Dakota Red. I've been eyeballing that guitar for over a year. I like the fat neck on it. So I placed the order within fifteen minutes of seeing their price. Sometime this week, I'll have my first ever Telecaster to love.

I dont do Strats for the simple reason that the volume knob gets in my way because of the way I play. I cant throw it around and lose myself in it because I'm worried about turning myself down.

Love Tele's.

Everyone has their suited model, you just gotta find it first.
