well we have to write a 3 minute piece for 3 instruments as an end of the year project. In my effort to get more organized I'm trying to plan things out now so it wont be a huge rush then.
i want to do something very melodic and relaxing but I'm not really sure what instruments i should use. I'm thinking of using a violin and a piano but as for the third instrument ???

**if it makes a difference: we will be using keyboards with tons and tons of settings that can be set to sound like any instrument in the world**

I would either go for a tenor saxophone or a bass guitar. a lower, more mellow tone always helps in an ensemble such as that.

cool...I haven't worked much with a sax but I'll defiantly give it a try tomorrow.

+1, or three classical guitars as four or five would be a typical string ensemble and you could check out some string ensemble stuff for ideas.

How about a Chello? Bowed like the Violin or plucked like a Bass it lends itself to the other instruments as a support as well as a lead voice.

Good luck,

saxes are pretty cool to work with, they're in kind of a weird key but so is everything else.
