I was reading through The Guitar Collectors Forum where one of our forum members Red Paul writes a lot and was reading that John Mayer is having a Master Built copy of his favorite black Strat the one he played Human Nature on at the MJ tribute coming out . There will be 83 why that number you got me,Master built models available for $6,ooo each and for the common folk an unlimited run. Not to rile up all the Mayer super fans but has Fender lost there mind or is this guy the only young guy that can move guitars for them. Does he not already have 2 signature guitars already. The guys a good player but he is nothing special and I still cant think of an electric guitar song of his off my head. Acoustic yes electric no. I really want to see them move 83 axes at 6 grand unless the collectors will just by anything master built.OK Mayer fanatics I am ready for the shots fired my way with a smile on my face but this is ridicules as there are guys who have had 25 year careers that still dont have an artist model and Fender cant be more creative with production than this. OH BROTHER

Clearly, Fender Marketing thinks JM models are going to be big movers. This is not about "does he deserve it?" or "is he good enough?" This is all about moving guitars ... it's not an award ceremony.

Just my $0.02...

That's why it's the guitar business.

I still haven't seen anything to be in awe of in regards to his music or ability. I know he is a "pop culture" type celebrity but can't really think of anything he has done other than maybe Jennifer Anniston.

I agree this is more about how "popular" his name is and how they can cash in on that for people who are fans of his or know him....rather than is he an artist that is "worthy" of having a signature strat, let alone more than one.

Hhheh...I agree...Hell, Fender should also make a Hannah Montana Sig Strat while they are at it. Its all about making $$$$$

So a flat out question, "is it for the music or for the money"? What is it Fender?

Don't be naive. Fender isn't a charitable foundation created to promote great blooziness among all the people. Even Leo never intended it to be anything but a manufacturing company that made a pile of money.

It amuses me that everybody wants capitalism, and is terrified of socialism, but they all expect their favorite companies to behave as if they had some high moral purpose they were serving. Grow up. They're making guitars and selling them to you. That's what they do. ANd that's ALL they do.

EVen this forum is not some huge gesture of personal friendliness. It's simply a way of keeping their brand at the front of your mind.

I am not a huge John Mayer fan, but ... I have great respect for his talent. The guy can write, sing, and play ... all of which at a very high level. For me, there are moments where I can do pretty good with maybe one of those three. I am not sure people realize how hard it is to do it all. I do ... and because of that I have great respect for him and other artists like him.

Just my $0.02...

Cosign, making money is the #1 priority for almost any company, Fender is no different.

I respectfully refer you to the Mike Eldred forum and the post:
"Any news on the black one". The community has been following this event with great interest and discussion for some time now. No need to pursue it further here. It's watch and wait time.

Just my opinion, but to listen to the John Mayer music that makes it onto the radio (of which Im not a big fan), it really doesn't do his playing justice and therefore I can see how many people wouldn't think he deserves another signature guitar. To see him play live is where you get an idea of how good a player he really is. There is video out there of him playing with Buddy Guy and the difference you see compared to what is on his albums is night and day.

Well Doc I dont follow the Mike Eldred page so I did not see it if I did I would not of put it up. You never got back to me if you liked the deal I had for you. I see it is still up so I guess you passed, but I dont think you could do better than that Doc. Slapchop I am going to cut the diplomatic way of responding to you. No matter what the subject you have to come out in your arrogant way If someone was talking about Mother Theresa you would still have your obnoxious overtone. I thought I would show a little class and congratulate you on your 1000 post knowing you lacked the class to return it. So we will just cut to the quick here (You start with the phrase it amuses you)in which you stop an inch short of talking about yourself in the third person so, you better come off that horse you are on cause you are really going to fall on your face one day.Yes we know it is a buisness and you feel we 'all want Capitalism and are terrified of Socilaism' and you know that because someone might of told you that in a buisness class or the tooth fairy visited and told you .How the hell do you know what we want or are afraid of. So if the Jonas Brothers decided to play a strat they should have an artist model, Believe me they would outsell everyone. It is called integrity which in this case Fender is showing a lack of and something you should be an expert on. And if Leo Fenders sole purpose was to make money he was handed a whopping 13.5 million dollars back in 1964 which could of bought him a small country and he would of never had to touch a piece of wood again. But he came back with two other companies and I dont think it was for the money. I believe the guy LOVED WHAT HE DID. Not everything is money so we can toss that one out the window would you agree. And as far as making this forum run, this forum runs on its own by the guys who love to talk gear and play guitar. And you have the balls to tell us to grow up, you need to grow up and come out of that cocoon of negativity you are in and I know you are in because you would not last to long on the streets with that attitude of yours that I can assure you. One thing about me I dont have a phony bone in my body so you can toss my trying to be civil and stomach your snide remarks . I live in NY one of the most populated states in this country and I know a lot of people my man and I am a well liked and respected guy that gets along with everyone so let me set it straight . I Really Dont Like You.
