Tubes generally take about 100 hours (not steady!) to sing and get the full benefit of the beauty of the tube sound.

When you sell matched sets they are put through a 24 hour burn in period then measured.

I suspect tubes start to sound their best just before they blow. :D

More, on a new amp is to get the speaker broken in.

Some, but not all, amp manufacturers will give their new amps a burn in period and re-test everything.

Mesa Boogie in particular does this, followed by another testing/playing period before their techs sign off on the amp.

Most decent amps and tubes are burned in before you get them. The speaker is what needs to be broken in.

That's a funny question. I usually just play them but Celestion which I have in my new amp cabinet say's to play it at full volume then vary the volume. I guess it just depends on the manufacturer.

Thanks! I was just wondering if you knew of a certain way and figured you'd be the person to ask.

How do you break in a speaker and how do you know it's broken in?

Most believe that 48 hours playing at medium level will flex a cone to a desired point. That first couple days will be the most noticable change even though speakers continue to change through life but at a rate that is not as distinguishable as those first days.

Funny, that sounds a lot like when I got my new van 3 years ago. The manual specifically says that during the engine break in period to vary the speeds, even floor it and get it into the high rpm's every now and then. I know that's not a speaker, but sounds like the same principle.
