im a junior in high school and i always ask people do you play guitar and if so, how long? i have come to find that many people think that since they have a guitar they play guitar. i had a guy come to jam and he couldn't play a single chord.

I think everybody has owned a guitar at some point, whether they can play or not. I know some people that got into guitars so heavy, they bought all the best stuff, Gibsons or high dollar Fenders, expensives amps or boutique amps and alot of custom stuff just so they can fit in with the *crowd*. But they can't play a note, it's like they think their the best with all this equipment. I'm not talking about collectors either, most of the time a collector can play alittle, but these people get so caught up in the equipment that don't never learn how to play.

Some people have more money than they know what to do with.

Being a wannabe is great. All you need to do is turn that desire into blistering guitar licks.

Take a unplayable guitar (big neck, high action, .012'' stings, one PU) with
you to jamsessions. Let the wannabee's play your guitar.

Just kidding

What's the deal with you caring about anybody's else's motives?

Do you think these unskilled players diminish you in some way? They don't.

Do you think worrying about them elevates you in some way? It doesn't: there are plenty of guitar players who would look down their nose at your skills, too.

Just make good music, and try not to worry about what anybody else is doing.

Right on man. Good guitar players are a dime a dozen. There's always someone better then you. As soon as you think you're better then someone, there's someone else thinking "dude, i'm way better then you, what makes you think your so special?" We were all wannabes once. I still wannabe better.

hmmmmmmm, I don't think Koochie was rippin' on anyone so much as stating an observation.

I think that in our "visually oriented" culture people see things and then want to be "like the guy on TV." That's why there are Signature Models and a world full of merchandise to try and satisfy this most fundimental urge in modern society. Sure, it would be great if everyone were original but it's just not like that.

You call them wanna bes I call them future students
I always have a steady supply of business cards
with an invitation If you want to learn some cool licks give me a call or we could just jam.
aftr the first "lesson" they seem to ask for help just to play a basic song
and we are off to the races
