Anyone know if this is for real?

That rumour is unsubstantiated; in fact, Charlie's publicity man repudiated it in a series of news releases earlier this week.

Moreover, the initial reports were rife with mistakes. The ones that I saw named Charley Drayton, the drummer for the X-Pensive Winos, as the Stones' replacement for Charlie. They might consider that it was Steve Jordan (lately of John Mayer fame) who played drums for the Winos. Drayton played bass.

More importantly, there is no logical reason for Charlie to walk away from a goldmine. He's not working right now; he's merely enjoying the profits from the ABB tour. He has no responsibility other than avoiding trouble. He's got the best situation in the world.

Most importantly however, is the fact that without Charlie Watts there is no Rolling Stones. Brian, MT, Ronnie and Bill were and are replaceable. MJ, KR and Charlie are not. Keith would say that Charlie is the Rolling Stones. I'm inclined to agree.

At 68, I can certainly see why he's just done with it. Nothing else to accomplish in a stellar career. Pull up to the fire and rest your bones Charlie. 8) Mike

For the past few days, my radio station has been talking about this on their "news." The last I heard there was nothing official yet and he said he's not quitting.

Time for Vinny to go blaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa :D

Hey Micks mother I believe is still alive and his father passed but a few years ago and they are and were well into there 90s so he has good genes. I believe Keith who is as super cool as you can be is really a zombie.lol It is crazy but they could actually be touring into there 80s, they are at least going to be doing it in there 70s thats a gimmie. Who the hell would of believed this in the 60s or 70s .I dont think Charlie is going anywhere. When I saw the Steel Wheels tour they were slamming and made a huge rebound from the tour before that. Mick had the energy of a guy in his twenties the two huge blowup dolls was a great touch and it was a fine show. But after seeing the Voodoo Lounge tour all the air is out of this bandit was droll and I was actually trying to keep myself awake. I cant remeber the last album that was remotely significant but the bottom line is they have the money to play until they want to end it.

That's an interesting observation. One would be inclined to say that the whole is the sum of the parts. It would likely be more relevant to say there'd be no Fleetwood Mac w/o MF. I find the percussion style of both artists similar.....i.e. non-flamboyant and rock steady.

Doc.

I'm a man of peace. But when a while ago Charlie snapped and punched Mick Jagger in the face in front of a room full of journalists for refering to him as "my drummer" - well, I felt he did the world a service.

Decades overdue, of course.

If he leaves, who the heck is going to perform that duty to mankind in future?

On that, anyone know if Charlie is still running his big band? His own musical contribution to it was... minor. But it has actually been a very good swing band and a lot of fun. Maybe he'll concentrate on that area from now on.

The last Stones show I saw was so dreadful I'll never pay them ticket money again. But the Charlie Watts Big Band - hell, yes!

Cheers - C

I've been forever surprised that Jaggar didn't go solo ages ago....like Cheryl Crow f'rinstance....and so many others who begin as a band.
Bummer for the sidemen who made the sacrifice
