I hope EVH isn't that hard up for money.

It doesn't surprise me at all. I'm sure there are many more bands doing this kind of thing.

Anytime a major band comes to Vegas, and the venue sells out, you'll all of the sudden see tickets for sale for $200+ from some broker in Florida or New York, or basically anywhere all over ebay. And regular ticket prices are only $40+.

I knew it was only a matter of time before bands started getting pissed that brokers were making that much money off their tickets. You know what.. I'm more pissed that the brokers exist. They eat tickets alive in a matter of minutes around here, and pump up the prices to unbelievable levels.

Tool had an interesting way to stick it to brokers on their last tour. They waited 'till the day of the show (or the day before, I don't quite remember), and made a large number of tickets available again, wiping out the possibility of brokers sticking it to the local public. They had to eat their tickets or sell them at face value to even unload them.

Eddie do anything for money!!!! So much for David Lee Roth making Eddie look good. Whats EVH do rip fans off. What made Van Halen anyway was Roth and Hagar!!!!

Eddie Vanhalen better get the best spin doctor and fast. From inovative guitar wizard he has single handedlly destroyed his name and reputation like no one else I have ever seen. He has become the Richard Nixon of guitar icons. When I just had a post up last month saying people should back off and give the guy a break he is involved in another disaster . You would think he would have more money than everyone on this forum combined and yet he is always involved with his name being involved with doing something greedy that extends from selling sneakers to guitars and now SCALPING! Hey he is no way the first guy involved but he was the last person that needed to get caught up in a mess like this. Hey if this was a young hot band I would not take it to heart. The mess that is the music buisness today the only real way for an artist to make money is by touring as there music is ripped off and downloaded before an album even comes out. But a band like Vanhalen and all the other giants like the Stones and Eagles were around during the golden age of record sales and have amassed huge fortunes yet they dont think of giving something back they think there fanbase is the babyboomers who will plunk down these out of control prices and dont really care of adding any new fans. I have to tip my cap to PEARL JAM for standing up and at least making an attempt to look out for there fan base. Who the hell is ticket master to make a third of the price of a seat on a show. Well the last show I saw and scalped tickets for on the web or these days they have titles 'TICKET BROKERS ' was G3 with Yngwie at the Beacon. Me and two friends bought three 4th row seats for $100 each and I dont have a complaint because those guys played there asses off. The sin is they got ripped off. This is not just the music buisness I live in NY and I dont think I will be going to a Mets,Yankees ,Jets or Giants game anytime soon .The ticket prices are so out of control it is beyond belief. I really hate to say this and those of us on the forum that are of the age know it has to suck for the young people of today because we REALLY HAD IT GOOD.

guitar players write songs and play guitar, they spend quality time with their women the source of inspiration, some times I have heard of guitar players trying other things and that does'nt seem to turn out so well for them and that is why I have an accountant and an IT person, you may wonder how does an unsigned bass guitar player afford an accountant and an IT person, my little sister and my great nephew respectfully and very lucky
ps.the quality part was a note to self too.

Wow, we are getting so judgemental about people we don't even know. Do we believe everything we read in the paper as true and wholly? Maybe we should walk in his shoes for a while see what it is like trying to make some money as a washed up guitar player.

He was inovative in his time but he is not the best anymore.

Get over it!

Don't go to concerts anymore. The juice ain't worth the squeeze. The industry has made of itself, excrement. The videos which are available serve their purpose. I don't have to sit in the broiling sun, forty miles from the stage, deal with pushy crowds, everyone standing, and a basketball center two seats in front of me spoiling the view.

I know people who flew to England for the Cream Royal Albert Hall reunion, and then saw it again in NYC. What is that!! Normal!!
Suppose they gave a concert and nobody came? :P

I'm waiting on Gilmour. That will be the last. I'll pay for that live experience but no more. 8)

i know this is far from EVH related, but just to address the side topic here about live concerts and being able to see em online and such...i hear Youtube is in grave danger. Google is finally starting to feel the heavy load on its back from supporting such a mammoth load with little or no profit. youtube probably gets a bajillion new videos every week, and most of them are stupid fraudulent, non-legitimate content that the teeny boppers down the street filmed on their cell phone while hanging out in the mall. as a result, the server is practically oversized, and VERY costly to maintain. add to that the fact that there really is no way for Google to profit from running the site. for once, i sympathize with a corporate giant.

they've been starting to incorporate advertisements, but it may not be enough to pay for costs. i hear they're considering on filtering out content so that only legit videos reside there. there's a chance they'll make people subscribe for paying membership to upload videos.

now here's my point...if that happens, the free live concert footage that is readily available to us now, may diminish. most of that footage is from amateur average joe's like us who decided to upload their footage. i'd bet most of those people would refuse to pay for membership. so, yeah, we might experience the end of an era if Google decides to make the move. better get all you can while its here.

It's hard enough for bands to sell their music without the online exposure they are getting now from whoever wants to host video. I have a feeling if Youtube starts turning people down they will just go to some other site. Not to pick on Shakira but just check out her site on myspace/youtube. If it weren't for the videos do you really think anyone would be listening to her music? We've reached a new frontear where radio does not control who you listen to as much as it once did. Most people listen to their Ipod instead of a DJ's play list. The internet has become a serious business that I'm sure corporate wants to control asap.

Scalping is despicable...especially for a musician. With that being said...I got some great Nickelback tickets for sale (LOL). Just joking. It is a shame, but we'll see how it pans out, it will probably get swept under the carpet.
