I got my flu shot yesterday and my arm still hurts (a little). I hope that this goes away by Saturday mid-day as I am going to jam with a friend. (I haven't jammed with another person in a very long time.) I have had worse flu shots, this year's vaccine is not that bad.

Not looking forward to the Swine Flu vaccine, but I work in the health field and will have to get one when the vaccine becomes available.

For those who usually get their flu shots, don't forget. For those who don't, I highly recommend them, but still wish you a healthy flu season too.

I get My flu shot evert year but that swine flu shot I am not sure I will get. They seem to be rushing that one through and I thought I have heard there are some issues with it on test subjects. Have you heard this?

The last time they made a flu vaccine that encompassed the Swine flu (In the 50's), there was a condition called Gillian Barrea Syndrome that occurred. Not fun. I have not heard anything on the test subjects yet. I will be doing some research as well because I do not want to be disabled or die from a vacine either.

I am going to see how it fairs during testing before I get mine. After all it still is a personal choice no matter how much you get pressured

Honestly, the flu is the flu. You treat it the same, (treat the symptoms and with antibiotics). You prevent it the same as well, (cover your mouth when you cough, frequent hand washing with soap and water, and throw away used kleenix in the trash).

I have aleady been exposed to the swine flu 3 time already (hazzard from working as a nurse) withing the past 2 months. This is the confirmed cases at the clinic I work at (while I was on duty).

That names sounds like what I heard mentioned that they were worried about. I spent many years with JHU but not at the Hospital but a different area of the University until layoffs. Talking to some that Scientist that study these bugs makes you realize how scarry it can be. One explained to me about the 1918 flu and why it effected healthy young people worst then older ar very young kids. Thats the stuff I think they fear the most.

Your arm will probably be ok once you start playing. For some reason lots of aches and pains disappear when you start playing.

I think I'm lucky with the whole Flu thing. I've never gotten flu shots and I hardly ever get sick.

Though I do tend to wash my hands around 20 times a day, maybe that's helping.

Forget that, i'd rather have flu.
I did get Swineflu according to the national panedemic helpline and my Doc. Few days in bed and i was right as rain, even took the missus out for her birthday on the 4th day.

I think it is too late for the Swine flu shot by now. The kids are already spreading it in school. If my conspiracy theories are correct it won't be long before there is an outbreak. The good part, like some have mentioned, it's not that potent but if it should mutate we are screwed.

So good health to everyone and hopefully we will overcome this one inspite of our governments lack of preparedness.

I never get flu shots. :p

I just eat right, exercise, wash my hands a lot, and don't let people sneeze into my mouth. :]

Yup, 'get a flu shot yearly. Wife is a surgical nurse and highly recommends, especially as you get out of your 30s and beyond. 'Always get in in the non-fretting arm, as tendeness is there for a couple days.

That's a potentially nasty complication of a viral infection. Had a colleague develop that about 30 years ago during one of the flu epidemics. Had nothing to do with vaccination.

The current recommendations from the US CDC for all health care workers is both vaccines.

I've avoided vaccination for years, without any repercussions but society fails to take ownership of the kinds of behavior required to avoid transmitting infection.....staying home from work, keeping kids home from school, proper hand washing and the like. Too many people walking around sick even with the usual and customary head colds.

Seems that there's more gearing up for what's to come but make no mistake, this is the same virus from the 1918 pandemic...so......

Doc

One of my sisters had Gillian Barrea Syndrome and ended up at a rehab facility to learn how to walk and function again. It came on like a virus and within 48 hours was in an ICU. Twenty years later now, she's fine.

As for the shots, yeah, I'm getting them. I've had about 40 needle pokes since I started chemo last summer, another couple won't bother me.
