Hello Ymoboi,

I'd like to get my hands on a old Starcaster,
or even a new one if they made em again.

Cheers.

+1

And a Strat-O-Sonic, a Telesonic, an Aerodyne Tele...
Oh, and the Guild electrics - the Starfires and the Bluesbirds.

I always liked the look of the Fender Esprit. Never handled one - I wonder if I ever will? (I think this is more recent the Squier version...)

Yes, yes, yes, completely forgot about this one. Please Santa, I could settle for the Squier, no prob.

The Toronados seem pretty cool, on gut feeling I'd rather have one of those over a Jag or a Jazzmaster.

A lot of these types of guitars are usually found on eBay. There are usually a handful of Toronados and Jagstangs that sell in the $500-600 range. They vary in quality from junk to pristine. In the last week there have been several Fender Esprits and a nice Squier Esprit on eBay as well. Right now there are several Katana's and Performers available; there was a Fender Swinger up last week, etc, etc. The list goes on.

Also, if you dig around there are different boards like ours devoted to these various styles of guitars.

I can't build a collection of Custom Shop specials, but there are some neat little guitars I'd like to own; some if not just because they are kinda unique. I like the Squier Vista series from the 96-97 years. They are CIJ made guitars and are really pretty neat to play with and of good Japanese quality. I have a black Venus, and am looking for a Super-Sonic and a Jagmaster. They made a 12 string Venus and a MusicMaster bass as well. I have a Squier ’51 that I want to hot-rod up and there is a Squier Esprit on my wish list as well.

I own a CIJ Mustang and have a MIM Cyclone I found for a couple of hundred bucks at the pawn shop.

There are a bunch of unique used Fenders that can be found for about the same price or a little more than a new MIM Strat or Tele. Granted, they may not be the quality of an American made Strat, but I'll bet you there are a ton of them that have more sounds and music waiting inside them than a lot of the folks here (me included) can get out of them.

Plus, at the $400-600 range, they can be a fairly inexpensive way to cure a GAS attack!

The Toronado is a good guitar. I like the feel. But nothing beats a Jag, so versatile. I have an S-S for the record. I would love to get my hands on an H-H Jag(not the Baritone).

Ah yes, indeed! We've admired that particular Esprit before - quite a hunt for that one, if I remember right?

A very pretty top, and I do think the headstock is much nicer than the Squier.

What a shame that model didn't continue...

There are a few Starcasters on EBAY... However they aren't cheap by any means.

That Esprit is lovely! I'd buy one in a heart beat!

I really want the very recently discontinued TC-90. I'm gutted I never grabbed one when I could have.

Well lemme see:

 The "Jag-Stang" was a cobbled together piece of Sh*t that even that hack Kurt Cobain wouldn't play.
 The Mustang was designed as an entry level STUDENT model, so how many versions of a tricycle do you need.
 The original Starcaster was expensive to make and didn't sell very well so it was discontinued. Folks don't associate Fender with that type of guitar. If they want it, they go Gibson. Same with those who want a "Strat-type" guitar don't look at Gibsons even if there is one availble.

Next Question? :)
