What happened to the Fender Jag-Stang? And what happened to the Fender Starcaster!?! Why are there so few versions of the Jaguar? Why is there only one version of the Mustang? So many Fender guitars gone, with no explanation! Can someone please tell me why all of these guitars are gone/have fewer versions?

Well that jag-stang was originally made for Kurt Cobain but he said it was $@!& so he continued to play his mustang. Alot of people bought them apparently but are reselling them (Thats why theres always quite a few on ebay) because apparently they suck hard.

As for he Starcaster i think gibson told fender off for it being too simular to the ES 335.

Theres not many versions of the jaguars because not many people buy fenders for heavier stuff (except for that jim root tele) so they dont bother with humbuckers, so end up going for the jazzmasters with the p-90s.

And as for the mustang, well even less people buy them, so they're not gonna make multiple versions.

And on a more interesting note, i stumbled across a fender tornado which strikes me as odd since its very simular to the mustangs, so i cant understand why fender bothered making them.

Gibson said nothing about the Starcaster. It wasn't really anything like a 335. It had a bolt on neck too. The Coronado series were a little closer. The Coronado was a true hollow-bodied electric guitar. The Starcaster I tried in the 70's was sort of lack luster. Nothing really great and Fender never really sold many of them. Here's a link to the Coronado http://bellsouthpwp.net/d/t/dtoole/FCP.htm

The company is always looking for the fresh and new. The latest Jazzmasters are artist inspired. There's a JM in the works. A revised EJ. Now a Road Worn series to quench the relic craze at a reasonable price point.

Remember, this is a business. They keep what works, and discard the rest.

The Clapton has been around for over 20 years.

My memory goes back over 50 years to a limited choice of versions: trem, hardtail, lefty, gold hardware, and a couple of colors plus blond....but just one maple neck Stratocaster known by year.

I had a chance to buy a Starcaster years ago--but I wasn't working at the time, and couldn't really afford it--I wish I could have--it was quite nice.

Now when you can find one for sale, it's a ridiculous price.
And if they re-issued it, it would probably be too much for what I could spend on a guitar at this time.

Maybe a Squier re-issue would work.

I hate to sound like a broken record but guitar wise Fender is a two guitar company. The Telecaster and the Strat . Which are two of the greatest guitars ever made and probably 2 of the top 3 ever made. But I have a post up now HAS FENDER BEEN A BUST SINCE LEO LEFT. THAT WILL GO DEEPER IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR IT. I can hear shots being fired by my house now .lol

The Mustang and the Jag are neat guitars. I love my Mustang, but I'll be the first to admit it doesn't have the power of my Strats and Teles. The Jag will be my next guitar. I think the short scale of both these guitars may turn them off to some people, but I kinda like it. I would hazard a guess that both aren't seen as flexible of a guitar to modify as a Strat which probably keeps some folks away.

Both are made in a bass model. Kinda unique.

You may be confusing greatest guitars with greatest selling guitars. There are many greater guitars, just out of the price range of guys who like to strum a guitar and not play for a living. No, Fender didn't go bust since Leo left, they exploded and expanded.

Read what you wrote again.

You keeping saying "one or two guitar company" like it was a bad thing. From a profitability standpoint, what would be wrong with make two products that dominated the market? Nothing, that's what. In fact, it's better than bad, it's good.

This is like somebody ranting that the entire American pet industry is aimed at just two animals.... dogs and cats. "When are people going to start keeping porcupines??! We're like a two-pet industry, here!"

That is, you're making a groundless claim.

My Montara is another great guitar that went by the wayside. As far as I can tell they were only made for a couple years, not much info available on them. The real downfall for the original design in my opinion was the battery for the preamp was only accessible through the soundhole. But the electronics died and I've since replaced them with a system where I can access the battery from outside.

Great guitar, the new Sonorans are very similar but without the convex body shape, and they are available in all those colors.

Kind of hard to use this as an example because Fender has never really gained any notoriety as an acoustic guitar maker.

My long time friend and bandmate sold his '58 Stratocaster to me and purchased a white Jag the year they were issued, along with a Dual Showman amp. I purchased his Concert. In my opinion, the inherent problem with the Jazzmaster and the Jaguar was lack of simplicity. Compared to the Tele and the Strat, the electronics and multiple switching of the newere models was a drawback as were the trems.

An original stock '51 Nocaster of which about 475 were made.

Hello Ymoboi,

I'd like to get my hands on a old Starcaster,
or even a new one if they made em again.

Cheers.
