Well, it is a bit dark right now Doc. :) I'll see what I can do later today. John

TMI :!: Just the photographs please... 8)

Okay Doc, here are a couple of outdoor pics of the Tobacco Sunburst Deluxe.

It's starting to cool off a bit here. The high today was a chilly 100. It was 114 the last time I snapped a few outdoor guitar pics. :)

Nicely done. Supports my observation on another thread that rosewood goes well with dark wood finishes. My FSR VG has a maple neck with that cherry burst. That works well. Don't think RW would do. What you have here is excellent.

Enjoy!

Thanks, Doc.

I was trying to decide between a 3 Color Sunburst Mayer and the Tobacco Sunburst American Deluxe Ash. It was a toss up but someone had put the Mayer on layaway when I went back to make my final decision. There, that was easy. It's the Deluxe Ash. :)

I agree, the rosewood fretboard goes well with the Tobacco Sunburst. Oh, and the finish looks much lighter when it's not out in the intense desert sunlight. It was the subtlety of the sunburst and the grains of the wood that initially attracted me to the Deluxe. Playing it through a '65 Deluxe Reverb Reissue sealed the deal.

Well chosen. The current Mayer is a boring imitation of the SRV. The new project is far more exciting.

I did like the Mayer's pickups and the fretboard was very nice. I was already leaning toward the American Deluxe, though. I figured it was time to add another thoroughly modern Strat to the herd. I think I'm covered now with a VG, 2005 Clapton and the American Deluxe Ash. 8)

All three of those necks are 9.5 radius so there's no difference there. The tonal quality of the rosewood with the SCN's will be chunkier. I had that combo in my Clapton based CS which I swapped out for the Gilmour. I managed to capture the FSR Deluxe VG and those pickups particularly in humbucker and baritone configuration are storming. I plan to fit that guitar with the Gilmore strings which have a heavier E,A,D. The last, of course, is the '89 Clapton, back to the Lace Sensor guitar which I prefer.

That feeling of security is short lived. There are two guitars which I've strong interests in....the '57 Hotrod, and the Dave Murray. Fortunately I have not yet been able to find a vendor who has one in stock to audition.
That's one sure way to keep out of trouble.

Doc

I went more than 40 years between American Stratocaster purchases so the G.A.S. buildup was intense. An Olympic White/Maple 2008 American Standard is a nice complement to my 1965 Black/Rosewood Strat and got me started.

The '65 covers my 60s vintage Strat cravings but I share your interest in the Vintage '57 Hotrod, Doc. I'm probably a goner if I ever see one in the wild.

[quote="john.bohn"] Doc, I'm probably a goner if I ever see one in the wild.

I've played one. Great neck. Actually persuaded nikininja to buy one based on that. He was on the hunt for a '57 RI until that moment.
