What's that supposed to mean?

Guitar Center is owned by Bain Capital LLC, a private equity firm that was founded by Mitt Romney.

Well, in that case, I like the company all that much more.

Hello Warpfield,

Wento GC on friday and made no purchases and went
back today, acoustic hard case, 3 packs fender strings.
guitar strap and 4 picks = total 52 bucks. pretty cool.
I did notice that a lot of acoustic guitars were sold as
the walls had empty spaces.

No guitar cable though.
maybe the next big sale.

Cheers.

Bought my American Standard Telecaster 3 color sunburst there on Saturday. Plus an amp.

 8) :D 8) :D

Huge sale, awesome guitar, and I'm on my way. No regrets here, it's business. I wanted an item and they had one at a price I was willing to pay.

And Mitt? Oh yeah, he's all right too. :P

Doghandler - good luck with your new Tele. Excellent choice. What amp did you get? The GC near me had a '65 DRRI for $850, which I thought was a pretty good deal.

One can do well there in the right place at the right time.

I bought a discontinued American Deluxe FSR VG Stratocaster in the Carle Place store last March at a literally killing from what the guitar's original MSRP and retail price was. Same for a Karaoke machine on closeout, which I want to use as practice gear, a portable PA, and something my grandaughter will get a kick out of singing through.

I find that most of their sales or discount cards exclude the brands I am most often interested in. When they are clearing house, the reductions are on the tags.

I spent my 'allowance' this year. The other thing I take advantage of is using their money on their credit card for big ticket purchases. I always pay it off before the year ends.

Nothing so fancy. Was that the reissue?

Someday I hope... a legit vintage tube amp would be awesome.

I just needed a practice amp. I'm at absolute zero here. Today my little girl fingers are quite sore, and I don't work an office-type job.

I got a Line 6 Spider IV, 75W. It was about three hundred. I compared it to a 100W Fender Frontman 212 and a Marshall who's model number I don't remember, but I think it was 50W and in that price range.

Honestly, I wanted the Marshall or the Fender, simply because I knew the names. I'm still not 100%, the Line 6 seemed a bit gimmicky, and they give you 30 days to change your mind. So that could still happen, just based on brand recognition.

But... the fact was, the Tele sounded best, or should I say had the most range, from really clear to really heavy, crunchy, distorted, through the Line 6.

So who knows. Of course, I welcome feedback. -Hey, that's a guitar joke!

Maybe think less of the ultimate founder and more of the employees and product-producers...?

You certainly have some serious gear for just starting out. A 75 watt modeling amp of that ilk is nothing to sneeze at, nor is your choice of guitar.

Take you back half a century to when we were playing those 'el cheepo' Danelectros (now considered classic vintage thanks to Page), Kays, and Harmony's, because the Fenders, Gibsons, and Guilds were high end stuff to us back then. (First amplifier was a converted table radio. :P )

Spend a couple of years getting your chops down, listening and learning technique and about gear. When you've finally found your voice and your style you can then begin to think about the 'paint, brush, and canvas' on which you will begin to seriously express yourself.

Doc

Sage advice Doc, thanks.

You're right of course, on the gear. I did consider picking up something more basic, but decided that at this point in my life why wait?

I could be gone tomorrow, at least now I wouldn't go wishing I'd bought that Tele.

There's no way I would ever let politics interfere with a G.A.S. attack. Come to think of it, I haven't found anything that does. Hmmm, I still have checks left so there must be enough money in this account to buy that gorgeous Tobacco Sunburst American Deluxe Ash Strat.

But seriously, I have never seen better prices on American Deluxe Strats than my local Guitar Center had last month. The sale price was already low and I got an extra discount for being a good customer. Yeah, I can take this home.

There are some good deals to be had and I don't mind making Mitt richer if it saves me money.

John
