Go out and play as many guitars within your price range. You will find one you like. I play Fender and Squier, both are good brands, and I am far from a beginer. Recommended guitars from Fender/Squier to try:

1. All of them--enough said there.

Good luck with your search, let us know what you decide on, (even if not a FMIC guitar).

Welcome to the fourm, The Squire series by Fender is hit and miss. So I suggest you go to your local music store and try out a few. I have an american standard P-Bass, Gibson Grabber II, Epiphone master built, A Squire Fretless jazz bass and a Squire Strat and they all play great. Good luck And let us know how you do.

Get a basic strat. Don't get anything weird that looks cool but is hard to play. Once you have some "chops under your belt" (Yngwie?) then you can decide on a better guitar based on your playing.

Check out Squier.com and the Squier forum.

Good luck in your journey.

eh, it's nitpicking, but it's "Squier" not 'squire.' :D One's a guitar, one's a knights helper. :D

I love Squier's, they play great and don't break, stay in tune and do everything I need them to do. That being said I wouldn't buy less then a 'Deluxe' or 'Standard' series from them. Personally I'd steer clear of the 'Bullet' and 'Affinity' Squiers.

Now some people may recommend if you're going to cough up the coins for a 'Squier' (and you'll hear the sarcasm when they say Squier.) then you might as well buy a made in Mexico Fender so you're headstock says "Fender" instead of "Squier." Don't. Listen. To. Them.

A Deluxe Squier plays better and is assembled much better then a Mexican Strat. What good is having Fender on your headstock if the guitar itself isn't so great?

Play a bunch like the Deluxe Standard, the Classic Vibes, the Hot-Rails Standard and see for yourself. They're awesome guitars.

They're all I play, and I play professionally and have been playing over 20 years.

A good guitar is a good guitar, regardless of the name on the headstock.

Cheers, and happy hunting. :D
