Hey guys there is a piece of gear that I found on one of the guitar forums that I like and is a bargain. I went through the guys whole post record and I have seen he has done straight up tranSactions on two forums. The thing is I have never bought a piece of gear anywhere but ebay and yes I know its a risk and on the honor system. I was wondering if anyone has bought off of a forum and how you went about it so I dont seem green or give an incling I have never done this before. THANX

Guy's do it on www.thefenderforum.com all the time. I've never heard of a problem. Are you a member of the forum you want to deal with?

never anything expensive. i have bought paperbacks for a series i collected (have em all, and it finally ended, but it ran through the years, some years 6 a year, and some 4 a year from 1972 til last year,) I needed a few to complete the set, but the transaction was really small. Under $50.00.

It went smooth, but then I was prepared to be ripped off, and the low dollar value made it pretty much worry free. Like I would have been ticked if I had been ripped, but i took the risk into account before doing the deal.

The guy was totally stand up. He included the editions I needed, and threw in 2 others, as i had mentioned in a thread that i had a couple that weren't in the best shape, he threw in better condition copies of those as a bonus.
I would be loathe to risk any real kind of money though.

I've bought stuff over at Harmony-Central and one other, very small forum, a couple times. In all those cases the sellers were long-time forumites in the respective forums, people that I had never met but nevertheless trusted to do the right thing.

I don't think I'd just buy from someone I didn't think I "knew" even if only via the internet, unless it was a very inexpensiive item.

I posted a Wanted Ad for an Ovation Breadwinner or Deacon on my own forum... got a couple of responses and have bought a Deacon from a guy in Scotland.... nice communication and I should receive it tomorrow. :D

Just be a little cautious, but not paranoid.

Be sure the guitar is fully described and that you've seen plenty of good photos. Ask obvious questions, like "do the pickups work OK".

Be sure the seller sends it fully ensured.

If you pay by PayPal or credit card you get a certain amount of protection as long as you've got evidence of what you thought you were buying...

We've bought guitars and amps from Harmony Central and The Gear Page..just check them out...most of the guys there (and some are on both) are good guys and very knowledgeable.
Just this past week, I traded my Duesenberg Starplayer Special (got on TGP) for a Taylor K24CE acoustic-electric...beautiful Koa body and amazing tone. I've also gotten my Tele and Diana (a Trainwreck Rocket clone - see sig) on TGP. Michael has gotten his Gibson LP Special and his amp on those boards.
