A respectable distance. However you're also about 150 km east of Krakatau as the crow flies. :? How badly was the Bogor area hit in 1888?

Every consider a move??

In 1888, bogor had no daylight. Black cloud all over the sky and dust rain every day.

Maybe someday I'll move to America 8)[/quote]

Looking forward to having you on board over here.

Must forgive me, I realized soon after sending that the year was indeed 1883 but could not the correction in before your response. Been volcano watching the better part of sixty years now and for me to drop that date is bit unnerving.

Anak Krakatau is a high risk area these days. Tourists have been killed on its slopes. Not withstanding, I would sure like to get out there and see with my own eyes what I read in detail all these years. That cycle is going to repeat itself. Not in our lifetime I hope.

I just came back today from a month long vacation in Bali, which is the island due east of Java. I saw on the tv several days ago about the earthquake that I believed was centered in Yjojakarta in the center of Java. I lived in Bali for 2 years and experienced an earthquake there... it's a very surreal experience while it's happening !!

150 km??? For some people around here, that's a daily commute to work and back.
