While I am finding the Music Fundamentals and Beginning Voice classes to be excellent. I am learning/relearning quite a bit. I look forward to these classes.
While the Beginning Guitar class on the other hand I have not been inspired or motivated in any way shape or form. I will attend this class one more time and if I still feel the same after wards it will be dropped.

Chet having done what you did years ago, I would advise you to tough it out. the first few probably won't help you at all. But I did get some value out of the class later. Of coarse I am assuming similar curriculum.

Where I found value was sorting out some of my bad habits. I was surprised by how many fundamentals I could improve on. Just little things. but a few things added up, I improved my technique a lot.

Like you i found the other classes more of a challenge, and thus they held my interest better. But I found value in the little things I corrected along the way in the beginner guitar coarse. looking back, 15 years now, i think they impacted my play over the long haul more than the theory classes did.

As I said, at this point I am not even motivated to do what is required. The instructor is a fabulous guitar player for his style of playing. In my opinion he is lacking in teaching skills.

That's the kicker then. the guy i took the class from was a great teacher. In fact i went to him privately to take the lessons I needed to prepare for the audition when i decided to take the full time diploma coarse.

If you aren't enjoying it, or taking any knowledge away from it, then it is a waste of time and money. It is mindnumbing to be going over stuff you have probably mastered 20 or more years ago.

Glad you are finding some of the classes to be fun and rewarding though.

Hang in there Chet. I know what you mean about an uninspiring teacher. That can make all the difference in the world. I need to get back with my teacher instead of wasting a lot of time on here! Have fun and good luck! :)

I hate that about some College classes. Some instructors are very good, while others make you want to run. I would drop and re-take the class next semester with a different instructor. When is your drop date? Can you still drop and get your money back?

Chet, you sound like a COLLEGE STUDENT, and even though one class is'nt great the rest are! Thanks for the update, looking forward to the next.

So far so good Chet, but it always seems to work out this no matter what you are doing there is always that one bump in the road. Maybe you should have a chat after class with your teacher and explain the situation that you dont really want to drop his class or what his take on it is. Maybe there is some good stuff that is going to be coming up as a lot of things start slow but build into something really good./GOOD LUCK

The instructor/teacher can make a huge difference, but if your gaining something from the experience, it seems worth it.

OK. Due to some other things happening in my life I have dropped the Guitar and the Voice Class. The Music Fundamentals Class is staying. I have already made up my mind to continue taking at least one class next semester.

Chet, you are SO hip and cool to be doing this.

Keep at it Bro, and if something is nasty or gnarly, screw it, get out, unless you need the class for graduation.
