I want to build a guitar. I have a Les Paul (not sure if a real Gibson) body and I would love to build it. It was my dads and It looks like this: (in the sense of body style and color, no parts, most likely from the 70's)

I would love to have all Gibson or Epi parts. Is their a way to put a name on the headstock (like a sticker that would stay on for years?)

Anyway my real question is how much would it cost?

I'm sure a luthier could lay the name out in pearl abalone for you, but then he might refuse to do it, because of legal reasons.

On the other hand, you could get him to put your own name on it in the style of the Gibson logo. I think that would be pretty cool.

I've heard people who customize Squires scratching of the Squire name and putting the normal Fender logo on there somehow. Not sure how they do that exactly, but I'm sure if you check the Mod forum, you might be able to dig up their technique, and just do it using the Gibson logo.

You sand off the squire Decal, seal the wood (make sure it's not a porous surface) if you have to, then re apply a fender Decal. Or a Decal of your choice, they're like transfers that you use water with. It is worth noting however that you can paint stripes on an elephant but that neither makes it less of an elephant nor more of a tiger AND as far as I'm aware it is illegal to make Fender headstock decals without Fender's consent (so making, buying or using unlicensed fender decals is a nono)!

In all honesty you'd be better off buying a fender neck and whacking it on a squire if you REALLY wanted to go out of your way to trick people into thinking you have a more expensive guitar than you do. Which is silly really :)

Of course that is all besides the point, in relation to the original post I think it'd be a tricky job, but not impossible. Gibson logos are inlays most of the time so they're very hard to replicate.
