yea i've been using it for years, nice resource. the problem lies in the fact that you can't initiate contact with other members if you have the free membership. on top of that, many people don't think to include contact info. in their profile. i've had to pass up a couple handfuls of players because of that, but i refuse to pay for premium membership.

I've been on it for about 2 yrs maybe, in the Detroit area. I've seen some interesting posts, but nothing ever really came of them. I get update emails from the site but rarely read them anymore. I just have the free version, since I don't need it that bad. More of an extra way to find people.

I've had better luck by word of mouth through other musicans, posts in music stores, gigging and meeting people, and craigslist than I have through bandmix.

Glad to hear it's actually working for someone though :)

Me, I'm in the middle. I'm open to a lot of music, and if I can make decent money and not waste my time that's always great. I like the ranchier side at times too, but I also don't want to soak up a bunch of time just "jamming" at bars when I can do that with some guys in a basement.

Well, we shall see how well it works, Dgonz. My experience has been the opposite of yours. I've tried networking, posting notes at stores, etc. No traction. Within 24 hours of posting on that site, I had three groups approach me.

Now, for a little update, one of the bands is an established group. They charge $1500 per gig and apparently play 2 or 3 times a month. Im not interested in the money, but more in playing. The problem is they play the worst wedding reception music you can imagine. I asked for their set lists. OMG....I think I'd rather kill myself than play some of those songs.

The second band is more promising....A bass player/singer and drummer who have played together for 25 years....looking for an eclectic blues guitar player that like the raunchy side of blues and rock. These guys have some attitude and dont have aspirations of making lots of becoming professional musicians. They just want to some rough-n-tumble and edgy blues and blues-rock. I told them "if the song was written while the author was drinking whiskey and pissed off, I like it". The guy says "Amen brother, thank god you've come". Were going to play together next week.

I would kill for either gig.

Im with you. Im no professional musician though. I could always use an extra $500 (or my wife could). So Im tempted to play with the wedding band. They are mature and established. Apparently they play a couple gigs every year with crowds over 1000 people. Cant be all bad. But how many times can I play "Louie Louie", "Takin Care of Business" or "My Girl" before I vomit all over the stage? Im not sure.

Maybe I can do both. Its all good experience. Maybe I can rock for beers on Friday and seranade for cash on Saturday.

Many guys I know do that. They're in two or more bands. Some bring in money and exposure and a chance to play venues, some are for fun jamming, and some are for experimental original stuff.

Right now, I'm in two different projects (weeded down from 4 or 5). I have an acoustic band, two singers, one plays guitar as well, and a hand percussionist that also has a cajon. Very cool stuff, though nothing experimental, though I enjoy it a lot and we get a lot of fans. i like the challenge of taking various songs and arranging them to sound like acoustic songs, and i like the hand workout of jamming so much and soloing on an acoustic. it pays well and we get a lot of corporate events, which pay very well and give great exposure for all kinds of music situations.

My other band is more experimental, and we get to do more rock oriented things, "work on" parts, write and record.

I love both the same for various reasons. In neither am I playing songs that I dislike at all though, nut I'm pretty open to a lot of music, as long as I'm allowed to put my own style into it a bit and run with it.
