Currently, I'm using the webcam on my Macbook Pro to record vids for youtube. As you can see, the picture quality isn't very good. What kind of camcorder would be ideal for what I am doing? I'm currently using the Imovie to edit the videos for youtube. For sound, I'm using a Shure 57 mic plug directly to a M-Audio Fast Track USB interface and then is connected to my Macbook Pro laptop.

Hi.
for shear convenience I'd probably suggest anything that records directly to SD card or memory stick. That way you can just whip it out and plug it into your computer. If you get something that can take an external mic, you could plug the Shure into the camcorder to simplify things.

Otherwise if you want to continue plugging the mic into your laptop, then any digital camera with Mpeg vid capture will do the trick. For image quality go for somthing that can record at 30fps instead of 15fps and you shouldn't have any probs. They will only look crap in very low light, then a proper camcorder will work better.

Cheers.

Thanks mhainz for the tips. Yes, I would like the continue using my Fast Track USB interface, as I seem to be getting a nice guitar tone, but my concern is having the audio in sync with the video if Im going bypass the camcorder's audio when recording. So I would need a camera that has mpeg capture as you suggested. Any video camera, a brand and model, in particular? Also, I'm using an Apple Macbook pro laptop, so I would need a camera that is compatible with Macs using iMovie.
