Richards is overdue for such an honor.

See above...

You might be correct about that, Ceri. On the other hand, who on these boards wouldnt cut off their left *&^ to spend a day jamming on Tele's with that pickled relic of a mummified guitar greatness?

Their left what?

BTW: do I remember right? Does Keith use his Tele without a bottom E string? That presents an immediate dilemma to anyone purchasing a KR Sig as a tribute.

In fact, the ultimate dilemma with all "tribute" guitars - is it for looking at or playing...?

Well... me, for one.

In fact, I wouldn't cut my nails to jam with Keef. :D

But to stay on topic: is a Signature Guitar really an "honor," like some kind of Lifetime Achievement Award? I don't think so. It's a marketing tool, and one that has to be created with the cooperation of the artist (frequently initiated by the artist, for that matter).

I don't think Fender has a meeting to decide who's worthy, and then has the Custom Shop cook something up they can spring on the tearful recipient like a bouquet of roses at the Miss American Pageant. :D

I don't work for Fender, but it seems to me that it's not a mater of who is "worthy." It's a matter of what will sell (obviously, a K.R. Tele would sell like cocaine hotcakes), and what artists will participate (I'm guessing that Skeletor has a fine relationship with Fender but doesn't want to do it).

Just conversationally, not to make any particular point: two that we've heard (from Mike Eldred, I think?) that are in the pipeline are Robbie Robertson and Pete Townshend sigs.

If anyone deserves one through worthiness it's Robbie, who always puts the song first. I'm surprised - but pleased - if Fender think that one will generate enough sales, though. How many kids on this Forum have heard of him? (Some, I know, but...)

As for the Townshend: that's rather odd because his Strat is a modded Eric Clapton Signature model. So the the PT will be a sig of a sig... Will it carry both their names on the headstock?

It has an interesting hybrid magnetic/peizo setup. I wonder if that will earn it sales, though?

Cheers - C

If Fender ever come out with a Robbie Robertson tribute guitar, I'll be first in line Image Thanks for the heads up Ceri

Someone else will know better, but I think it's not far off, if I understood right.

Then perhaps finally the debate over RR's Strat that has raged on this Forum for as long as I've been here will finally be solved. Do two single-coil pickups placed side by side equal a humbucker or not?

I'm stuck on the idea of a Boss signature Esquire now.

Here's how it will be: there'll be a Clapton signature (in black), but it'll be crossed out and Pete's signature will be below it (in blue).

I'd like to see a Nils Lofgren signature
and a proper Bonny Raitt Tribute (modeled after her #1).

Jeff buckley definitely deserves a signiture tele (Even though he didnt even own the guitar, which he used his entire career....). He created the greatest album ever, there is no other album that contains such a variety of genre of songs of such great quality, clarity and skill. And if you still dont belive me, robert plant and jimmy page said it was one of their favorite albums of all time, david bowie said it would be one of ten albums he would take to a dessert island and bob dylan called him, "one of the great songwriters of this decade".
