I really love the first solo in Blue Sky by the Allman Brothers. What scale(s) was used in the first solo

This song showcases a unique guitar style that Dicky and Duane used on many of the Allman Brothers songs. One guitarist plays a lick in a minor pentatonic scale while the other simultaneously plays the identical lick in a major pentatonic scale.

Put more simply, one guy is fretting his lick four frets below the other. You can hear that effect on the transition between leads on this song, as Dicky and Duane both simultaneously play the same riff. It creates a unique tonal effect and, once you know to listen for it, you hear the same effect used on many other Allman Brothers songs.

BTW, this was the first vocal that Dicky recorded with the ABB.

Hi Jimi: I've only just seen this thread. Did you start it before or after I recommended Blue Sky to you on your "major pentatonic" thread?

If this was already running; well, I honestly didn't see it. That really is an amazing coincidence, isn't it?

(Seriously. I'm not being flippant - for once.)

I guess it just shows that Blue Sky is one of the all time top major key guitar tracks, and comes to different minds simultaneously!

Good luck with it - C
