Mike...these guys are the unsung heroes. We have all these posts like
f'rinstance the '100 best', 'greatest', 'fastest','strati-est, 'tele-ist'.....this cadre of session people who may not get liner note credits.....these people can likely play any of those guitar heroes under the table. They've forgotten stuff that the others never learned, and we need never to forget that some of the best there ever is to be or ever was will never become a household name.

A friend of mine was relating a story about the son of some one he knows, a young player in his 40's, who tours with Aerosmith. The word around the golf course is that if this guy isn't along that Tyler has serious issues.

R.I.P. Larry Knechtel.

He was a member of the Wrecking Crew... a group of first call LA session musicians who played on numerous hit records throughout the 60s.

The Motown backup musicians, the Funk Brothers, got their due in the documentary Standing in the Shadows of Motown. I was happy to read that the Wrecking Crew will get the recognition they deserve with their own documentary.

Can't wait to see it.

You're welcome, Mike.

I'm hoping Denny Tedesco can get a distribution deal for the film because I really want to see it. The videos on the Web site pulled me in fast. :)

Doc is right on point on his statement regarding session players even some of the biggest bands ever had studio players helping out on there first few albums some admit and some deny. I always think of the story that Joe Perry did not play that guitar run in the begining of Dream On and I kind of lean towards the side that it was a session player. When I analyze the scale and sophistication of it there is nothing else on the first album that closely resembles it. My brother has this book about famous music stories and there is one in it with Paul Simon telling this studio musician before a live TV performance of an early Simon and Garfunkle song that he wanted him to play the song exactly like he "Simon"plays it on the record and the guy says I know how it goes because I played it on the album-OUCH

Yes John, same here, and your mention of the name Tedesco brings back memories of Tommy Tedesco, another fine studio player who used to have a column in Guitar Player magazine, back when it was worth reading, in my opinion of course.

Straycat113, I can understand that might happen quite a few times. "I know how it goes because I played it on the album."
