So far the in the last two months alone 88 American soldiers have been killed in the Afgan war. The media seems to have forgotten about our soldiers dying since there is no political reason to press the point on the public. It 's no longer under Bush's watch so theres no need.

No matter what your politics let us never forget these Men and Women doing what they are told and representing the United States in Foreign lands and making the extreme sacrifice in the line of duty!!!!

This silence is deafening!!!!

I will never forget my brothers and sister still in the Service and the sacrafices they make every day. I also found it strange that the news was not saying much on that front.

Not to get into anything politcal at all. But when you talk to people on both sides of the fence of the war everyones heart goes out to the brave soldiers who have given up there young lives to protect there country. Not to be forgotten all the soldiers who have came home without arms or legs and whos lifes can never be the same again and whos numbers are way higher than those who died. All I can say to the powers that be is to do the right thing and give them the care and treatment they deserve.

that's because the news is full of Paris Hilton, Britney Spears and any other celebrity garbage they can fill the media with these days.

We don't get news anymore, we get 'info'tainment.'

It's a sad day when I've got to get online and read the news from other countries to find out what's happening in my own.

Hi CV: it's a very hot news topic where I am (focusing most but not exclusively on our own soldiers, of course):

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/in_depth/sou ... efault.stm

There's mounting annoyance over the whole thing. For example, in the last few days in a particular corner of Helmand Province 15 British soldiers have been killed. In that one area 150 people turned out to vote in the election - that's ten votes for each life given.

There's a lot of "what the **** are we doing this for?" type of feeling about it.

Cheers - C

Here in the US as long as people have a football game on Sunday and a sixpack of beer in the fridge the average person doesn't seem to care what happens to the rest of the world.

and yes, I'm embarrassed and disgusted by it. This country really seems to have collectively lost it's mind in the past 8-9 years.

Canada is looking better and better.

I'm /SO/ happy we received our "Don't Tread On Me" and the Betsy Ross "Eighteen Colonies" flags yesterday.

Two flags I'm /HAPPY/ to fly from our house.

My sheer thanks goes out to our soldiers(and everyone elses' soldiers) who are doing a service for their country.

Even the Russians (trained for inhuman conditions) couldnt take Afghanistan. What chance do we have?

Its not fair to have our troops their until our goverments are prepared to fight to win.

The Russians must be laughing their heads off at us right now. We're exactly where they were 20 years ago. 'Cept we can't give up and pull out, because if we do that failed country will indeed become headquarters to every nut who has learned to hate us in recent years.

Our one figleaf is that we're supposed to be bringing democracy to Afghanistan. Even a glance at this so-called election makes that sound pretty hollow...

The whole bring democracy to the middle east thing is pointless. They must be looking at our crime and corruption levels and thinking 'why the hell do we want that?'.
Its a different world out there. This level of arrogance that our goverments are displaying by inflicting democracy on that part of the world is astounding. Why couldnt they just be straight and say 'theres oil, we want it'. The people of the middle east know its the truth, as do the majority of the people in the west.

man some good points brought up that I completely failed to mention last night.

If the Russian army couldn't take Afghanistan, what the hell makes us think we can take it.

it's the same stupid mistake we made in Vietnam. You don't fight an enemy that will never, ever give up and has nothing to lose.

To be completely honest in todays modern age the entire concept of warfare is so primative and stupid it almost makes me embarrassed to be human.

I support our troops, I come from a military family. But our citizens become our soldiers under the understanding that we're not going to stupidly and willfully put them in harms way for no reason. And sadly that's exactly what we've been doing for years now.

I don't know a single person that supports the wars we've been waging. All it's doing is making rich people richer, getting our sons and daughters killed, and causing even more stress and problems in our country and economy.

it's a shame that in this period of human history we should be more enlightened then we've even been, yet we're still acting like moronic cavemen beating each other over the head for no reason.

our technology may have evolved, but clearly the human mind has not.

The war can only be won if you are willing to fight it . Be the meanest on the block and to hell with what others think . Doing WWII and Wars before that we fought to win and if that meant the bombing of civillian cities and towns and the destruction of the will power of the people to fight or to support those fighting it was done. War is a Bad thing but unless you make the people you are fighting against want peace because the alternative is worst then they could imagine. it wil never happen. Selective combat missions like in Viet Nam do nothing but drag it out. Time just strengthens and enamy and lessons the resolve of the American people to win and the enemy knows this. It is how we have become.

so the way to win a war is to be a terrorist? Hmm, there's some circular logic for you.

nobody ever wins a war except the arms dealers. It's been proven time and time again. With the exception of WWI and II where there was obviously a very clear evil in the form of Nazism, very few wars have been for any kind of good reason. Yes, some wars did in fact need to be fought. But in no way did all of them need to be fought.

our foreign policies, ignorance and arrogance are what got us into this mess in the first place. In the past 50 years the education system and the average level of american intelligence has plummeted. It's no wonder the rest of the world looks at us like we're morons. That's exactly how we're acting.

Thousands of people are getting blown apart half a world away but we'd rather eat buffalo wings and wonder what Paris Hilton is going to be wearing this week. No wonder the rest of the world hates us,....we're a**holes! And ignorant ones at that. Very few people actually seem to think anymore, they just regurgitate what the news and media tells us we should be thinking.

It's scary how stupid this country has become in the past 50 years. The "average" education that my grandparents received from public school puts them in the Genius catagory compared to what the "average" education produces today.

We've become a country of fat, lazy, dumba**es who don't care about anything except ourselves.

I'm not hating on America, I love it here and like I said I come from a long line of military family. But you'd have to be blind not to see what's been happening to us. People care more about iphones and movies and clothes and generally just really stupid crap that means nothing. Instead of caring about other people, the condition of the world or how we could possibly fix things to make them better. Our economy is collapsing, we're over run with illegal immigrants who don't pay taxes, the health system and social security are falling apart, the education is failing, etc. The entire country is falling apart, but hey, long as there's a sixpack in the fridge and a football game on then "every little thing gon' be allright!"

It's disgraceful.
