I remember this day....I was at Alpine Valley for that show....was driving out of the parking lot when they announced one of the helicoptors when down.

That was freaky, let me tell you. We didnt know who was on the helicoptor...Clapton, Cray, SRV?

I was 30 rows back, just left of center stage for SRVs last show.

Wow.

So they got the news out that fast?

Now I can see why they needed the helicopters in the first place. A single lane road for that many people, yikes!

That is so odd that he died 19 years ago today...I bought my first SRV CD today. I was reading a post from texasguitarslinger about SRV and thought I'd check him out. I like what I'm hearing. RIP SRV...thanks for the music.

I still cant get over the fact that Stevie is gone and he is certainly not a performer whos abilities got overblown after his death. Just about anyone including the older all time greats tip there cap to Stevie for bringing the blues back from the brink and into the mainstream just about single handedly. Remember this was the peak of MTV and nobody was playing the blues on MTV, And Steve always gave credit to those who came before him and was always mentioning his idols which turned a lot of young guys who were into Stevie onto other players and getting them back into the mainstream. And after his death the blues started to decline again, mainly because every new player wanted to be a SRV clone instead of being themselves and sooner or later someone will emerge. Please dont embaress yourself and mention John Mayer though he is a talented guy, he DOES NOT BELONG IN THE SAME SENTENCE WITH SRV.
