It would be the CV 60 (lol). He could play them at every show and burn them at the end and never destroy another Fender.

No really, I am sure that he would love the American Standard.

I'd have to agree - AmStd.

Jimi was the magic, not some fancy axe that did the work for him.

True, I read somewhere that his guitars were all essentially standard strats, six or seven ordered at a time without any preference for maple or rosewood fingerboards. Someone stated that all that was changed was the nut flipped over and saddles adjusted for intonation.

But if he were alive now, he would probably have his own signature model that everyone would clamor for. Perhaps he would have chosen to play jazz or experimental music and faded into obscurity. We can never know for sure just how powerful his death was upon his legacy and the popularity of his music. Post the death of Michael Jackson, I'm now fully convinced of a line from one of Hendrix's poems, which read, "once your dead, your made for life."

Hendrix would probably choose a Road Worn Strat 50s or 60s, and he may also choose a Highway One strat. I doubt he would pay full price for these gutars. He would instead wait for Musicianfriend's Fender Friday Deal and get the road worns for $499. He would of also purchase some new amps like the Vox AC4TV for $199 out the door from his local guitar center. I really doubt he would pick up that 57" Champ reissue since he would think it was over priced for $1000

I think he'd be filthy rich, even if he did fade into obscurity. Besides, if he wanted one I'm sure Fender would just give it to him.

I think his favourite strat would be a synth equipped parker fly or maybe even a VG. He wouldnt be mucking about on the vintage reissue stuff. He was CBS's champion in the late 60's. Everyone was slating fender at the time. JH said their just as good as the old ones and do what i want.

If Hendrix were alive today without the shadow of a doubt he'd be playing his own Signature model of whatever guitar a manufacturer was falling over themselves to throw his way. Whether that was a Fender, a Gibson, a PRS or a Parker is obviously impossible to say, since we don't know what journey he took between then and now in the parallel universe where he didn't die that day.

And by the way: "fade into obscurity"?

If he were alive today yet hadn't played a note between then and now we'd still be surrounded by Signature models of his stuff - because his relations wouldn't be in charge of blocking those kinds of deals.

After all, some of us hanker (geddit?) after Fiesta Red Strats made popular by a gentleman who did his stuff longer ago than Jimi and to lower levels of acclaim.

***

All of that being said - how can anyone really think it would be anything other than a Custom Shop Strat, like his friends Eric, Jeff, Pete and the rest?

Cheers - C

He would be playing the most modern, outer-space guitar available, just as he did in '67. A Flaxwood Liekki, a Parker Fly with MIDI Out, some crazy custom thing built for him by a mad scientist builder someplace....

Who knows, he may have stopped playing Strats altogether and switched to a Les Paul!
