I saw her open for the Stones of all people on the Voo Doo Lounge tour which when I think of it was a long time ago. I remember she did a nice version of Hendrix Angel and her hit was out I believe it was called Criminal. But the bottom line is that if she did not take off after all this time she probably will make a nice living in music but she is never going to be the major star that was predicted for her.

I dig what I've heard from Fiona Apple. Is it possible her career in music could be more like Liz Phair's? If it were me, and although I'm a guy, I wouldn't mind hitting the big time, but just enough that people have heard of me yet still be able to enjoy some anonymity.

I have "Extraordinary Machine" and ended up agreeing with critics. It isn't bad but is fairly scattered and yet broke little new ground. As far as I know, she performs around LA now and then but I think her biggest problem is never having hit on a distinctive "all her own" sound.

Her largely acoustic (including backup musicians) work is good but nothing really jumps out at you. In some respects, I wonder if she isn't just a good singer/player (like many I've seen over the years) who happened to have about one great album in her. If her videos are any guide, she'd do an enjoyable evening in just about any small venu.
