I would love a Strat but cant play them simply because of the position of the volume knob. I would mod one but til then I'm a Tele player.

Its a bit like askin what would you rather have: A Lamborghini or a Ferrari? BOTH ffs.

I totally know where you have your hands and i was the same about 10 months ago and its super comfy but my suggestion is perch your palm on the Low E string(6th) and play like that:) you probs already know this but im throwing it in there in case you dont
its a really easy change if you spend an hour playing like it disciplined:D

And im currently a Tele player but i want a strat simply because there is the whole "iconic" side of it and i play better with a strat:)

im buying a 80's japanese stratocaster with a system one trem~

Totally dude,
I guess I'm just used to the Tele and even more used to picking and chopping close to the bridge. Any time I've let loose on a Strat I've ended up changing the volume.
I just sold an Epiphone Les Paul that I'd had for 2 weeks cos I couldnt get used to it but I am interested in what different styles other guitars can bring out of me and I guess that I'm just gonna have to use them for varied styles. My Telecoustiic Deluxe alters my playing in a good way compared to my 72 RI and anything else with different necks of course (like my dream 52 that I WILL get some day!)
I've always thought of a mod though if I ever got a Strat.

I would chop the top off a knob if the threading for the pot reached near the top and then chop the pot turner thing (technicalities I am NOT good with, sorry!) and have a 'disc', if you will, for the volume where I could chop freely in this area without dramatically altering the Strats aesthetics too much.

You get me?
Hard to explain. lol

yeah i get you so instead of a volume knob youll have a flat 2p sorta sized disc there for you to dial with:) thats actually a sound idea and reccomend putting it to action sometime :P
and a telecoustic eh? how is it? i like using acoustics for the simplicity of them and the fun of being able to pick up and play with out amps and leads and all:P so a slim taylor would be my ideal acoustic:P

I'm glad you like it, its been goin through my head for some time! lol

The Telecoustic is great, I never liked the original bowl back versions, they weren't made very well and I hate fibreglass bowlbacks as a rule, they slide off your lap at every opportunity!
So I recently got the Deluxe version which is NOT a bowlback, so easy to play and I got the sunburst version and put the white scratch plate on it (they give you a choice!).
It looks great but is a very thin on its own but HUGE through my Acoustasonic 30, still great for on the lap and everyone knows me as a Tele man so looks great when I pull her out at gigs! lol

It also has a Tele pick-up at the neck and a slider on the Fishman electronics to blend between the electric and acoustic.
Fantastic guitar and these Deluxe models NEVER go out of tune.
Its a pity the previous incarnation has given them a bad rep cos I'm VERY impressed with the Deluxe man.

Ah I love this analogy, used it before so I'll get it out again:

That's like asking which supermodel I'd rather have, and the answer to that question is always both <_<

Wow I have to see who started this post again because there is an almost identical thread on harmony centrals forum about having GAS for a strat and I was shocked as the outcome was the exact opposite of what I thought it would be just as it is here. On Harmony Central I would say 1 out of every 4 guys enjoyed a strat but the Tele was the over whelming choice along with a Les Paul, and most guys with a Paul had a Tele very interesting. I have stated many times I started out with a Tele and it took a very long time till I just bought a strat to get used to playing it as I also hate where the volume knob is as so do a lot of players who responded here. The way to overcome this and it takes a while is to play with your pinkie slid in between the volume and tone knob. To be honest a strat is not a very easy guitar to play as you have to fight with it. But once you tame it no other guitar can single handley give you the sonic versatility of a Strat NONE. But till this day I still feel the Telecaster is the most comfortable ax to play.
